According to data from the Ministry of Defense, voluntary female enlistment was officially launched between Wednesday, December 1, and Friday, December 3, 2024, already achieving an impressive number of 7 thousand registrations.
This number reflects a great interest among women in joining military service, a pioneering action that until then was restricted to the male public.
The vacancies, totaling 1.465, are distributed between Brasília (DF) and another 28 municipalities in 13 states, in addition to the Federal District, marking the beginning of a historic program.
The measure that already arouses great curiosity
The voluntary enlistment of women, despite being a novelty in Brazil, is a significant step towards equal opportunities in the armed forces.
The measure, which extends until June 30, 2025, coinciding with the period of mandatory enlistment for men, is intended for women who turn 18 in 2025 – that is, those born in 2007, according to Decree 12.154, signed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in August 2024.
In addition to age, one of the essential requirements for enlistment is that candidates reside in the municipality where there is a military organization.
This detail aims to ensure that the young women are close to units that can incorporate new enlisted women.
Those registered will have the opportunity to join one of the three branches of the armed forces: Brazilian Army, Air Force or Navy, with the possibility of enlisting either online or in person, in one of the several cities listed, such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Recife and others.
The trend of expanding female military enlistment
According to information released by the Ministry of Defense, the objective is not just to open a reduced number of vacancies, but to gradually increase female participation in armed forces.
The goal is that, in the near future, women will represent 20% of the vacancies for military service, with around 1.100 vacancies for the Brazilian Army, 300 for the Air Force and 155 for the Navy.
This represents a significant expansion compared to the initial number of available positions, reflecting the desire to include more and more women in the armed forces.

Cities with enlistment units include large urban centers such as Belo Horizonte (MG), Fortaleza (CE), Curitiba (PR), Porto Alegre (RS), as well as municipalities in the interior that also participate in this inclusion initiative.
