Integrated Solutions Specialist, EnerMech, Selected to Lead Company’s First Major Decommissioning Campaign of Subsea Flowlines in the Region.
EnerMech, an integrated solutions specialist based in Aberdeen, secured a significant contract with ExxonMobil. The work involves the complete decommissioning of the flowlines from the Hoover Diana project. This oil and gas project, with 25 years of operation, is located in the Gulf of the U.S. This task represents EnerMech’s first major decommissioning campaign in the region, highlighting its strategic approach and offshore operational expertise.
The Historic Milestone of the Hoover-Diana Project
Located approximately 257 kilometers south of Galveston, Texas, the Hoover and Diana fields have been a milestone in offshore development since 2000. The project operates at a depth of 1,463 meters. Oil and gas production began in May 2000. It utilized innovative deep draft floating production vessel technology (DDCV). At the time, it set world records for drilling and production in deep waters.
EnerMech’s Expertise and Integrated Approach
The contract win underscores EnerMech’s technical capability. Charles ‘Chuck’ Davison Jr., CEO of EnerMech, emphasized the project’s importance. “The Hoover-Diana project marks our first large-scale decommissioning commitment in the Gulf of Mexico,” he stated. He highlighted the strong relationship with ExxonMobil, developed since 2018 in Guyana.

Jon Felton, EnerMech’s Technical Solutions Director, added, “Our ability to seamlessly coordinate various service line disciplines (…) sets us apart,” he said. According to him, the developed methodology establishes a new standard of efficiency and safety in the decommissioning of oil and gas assets in deep water. A team of specialists from the Energy Solutions division will be mobilized, integrating various service lines.
Details of the Decommissioning Operation on Oil and Gas Assets
The scope of work is comprehensive and technically complex. It involves flushing, pigging, and filling subsea pipelines. The goal is to remove hydrocarbons and prepare the structures for decommissioning.
The operation includes flushing the umbilical, flushing the pipeline, and seawater filling operations. Spiral tubing services, pressure pumping, chemical services, and nitrogen purging via a subsea vessel will also be performed.
A New Horizon for the Oil and Gas Sector in the Region
The decommissioning market in the Gulf of Mexico is rapidly expanding. Many oil and gas assets are reaching the end of their life cycle. EnerMech views this trend as a strategic opportunity.
“This project highlights the value we bring to our clients and positions us for future growth in this critical sector”, Davison added. The achievement after a competitive bidding process reinforces the trust that ExxonMobil places in the team and EnerMech’s integrated capabilities.
