Recently, a video circulated on the social network X (formerly Twitter), owned by Elon Musk. In the footage, a Tesla enthusiast climbed onto the roof of the Cybertruck while declaring the vehicle’s robustness.
What happened next caught everyone’s attention: the windshield of the vehicle, one of the largest in the industry, cracked immediately.
Repairing this flaw could cost around US$ 1,900 in the U.S. and may keep the vehicle out of commission for a considerable time.
The owner of the vehicle, however, did not seem to care about the incident. Instead, he took the opportunity to emphasize that the model is manufactured in the United States and represents the essence of the American automotive industry.
However, the model is facing resistance from the public and experts, being criticized for both its design and high price.
Cybertruck in Brazil
Although Tesla does not have an official presence in Brazil, its models are gaining traction. Data from Neocharge indicates that, since 2015, around 200 Teslas have been imported to the country. Among the most popular are the Model Y, Model 3, Model X, and Model S.
Now, the Cybertruck has also arrived in Brazil since mid-last year. The first owner of the electric pickup in the country was a digital influencer.
The influencer imported the vehicle for an estimated price of R$ 1.5 million, including taxes and documentation. In the United States, the price of the most complete model varies between US$ 99,900 (R$ 581,000) and US$ 119,900 (R$ 697,000).
How to Import a Tesla to Brazil
Importing an electric vehicle like the Cybertruck requires planning and knowledge of the rules. Here are the necessary steps:
Hire a specialized importer: The import process is complex and can incur high extra costs if done without professional guidance.
Fees and documentation: It is essential to gather the necessary documents, such as the purchase invoice and certificate of origin. It is also necessary to consider applicable taxes, such as IPI, ICMS, and customs fees.
Consultation with a customs broker: This professional can assist with the bureaucracy and ensure that all requirements are met.
Homologation by Inmetro: All imported vehicles must be evaluated to ensure they meet Brazilian safety and emission standards.
Transport insurance: The vehicle must have insurance against damage during transport to Brazil.
Registration and licensing: After the vehicle’s arrival, it must be registered with the state Detran to obtain plates and undergo vehicle inspection.
Maintenance and support: Since Tesla does not have official technical assistance in Brazil, it is important to ensure support for maintenance and charging.
Vehicle insurance: Some insurers offer specific policies for electric cars, but the Cybertruck currently does not have dedicated plans.
