Possible corrosion in the connector may prevent airbag deployment, while Brazilian owners await official JLR recall
The Land Rover confirmed it will conduct a recall in Brazil involving vehicles that may have a fault in the airbag system.
The campaign announced in the United States covers exactly 250,857 units of the Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover models.
The U.S. recall was announced on June 25, 2026, following an investigation conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA.

Possible corrosion of a connector may prevent airbag deployment during a collision, according to documents submitted to the agency.
The number of vehicles affected in Brazil has not yet been reported by JLR.
Recall involves Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover
The campaign announced in the United States includes vehicles produced in different periods.
The documents submitted to NHTSA indicate that the recall covers:
- Land Rover Defender, from model years 2020 to 2026;
- Land Rover Discovery, from model years 2021 to 2026;
- Range Rover, from model years 2022 to 2026.
Owners of these models should pay attention to communications released by the manufacturer.
The years, chassis, and versions included in the Brazilian campaign have not yet been officially detailed.
JLR confirms recall will also be conducted in Brazil
JLR Brazil confirmed to the portal g1 that vehicles sold in the country will also undergo the recall.
The manufacturer is still completing the regulatory procedures required by Brazilian authorities.
The company stated:
“The recall campaign will also be conducted in Brazil. At this moment, JLR Brazil is conducting the necessary regulatory procedures with the competent authorities.”
JLR also informed that owners of potentially involved vehicles will be notified after the completion of this stage.
The number of units sold in Brazil that will need to undergo the repair has not yet been disclosed.
Investigation began after an increase in alerts on the panel
The NHTSA investigation began in 2025, after the agency identified an increase in repair requests made during the warranty period.
The records were related to the activation of the airbag malfunction light on the vehicle’s dashboard.
Land Rover subsequently conducted tests to identify the source of the fault.
The results indicated that vehicle vibration could contribute to the development of corrosion in the system connector.
The increase in electrical resistance could, consequently, compromise the airbag’s functionality.
Corrosion may prevent airbag deployment
The defect is related to a connector linked to the driver’s front airbag system.
Electrical communication may be impaired if corrosion occurs at the terminal.
The airbag, therefore, may not deploy at the necessary moment during a collision.
The problem can be identified by the activation of a warning light on the vehicle’s dashboard.
Owners should monitor any warnings presented by the vehicle and observe official communications from the manufacturer.
Solution involves applying protective gel to the connector
The solution indicated by Land Rover involves applying a protective gel to the connector terminals.
The material should reduce the risk of corrosion and preserve the electrical connection of the safety system.
The procedure will be carried out at the brand’s authorized dealerships in the United States.
The Brazilian recall will depend on the completion of regulatory procedures conducted by JLR.
When will the recall start in Brazil?
The manufacturer has not yet announced a date for the start of the Brazilian campaign.
The chassis, model years, and versions that will be called in the country also remain without official confirmation.
Potentially affected owners should receive a notification after the completion of regulatory procedures.
The recommendation at this time is to follow the official channels of JLR Brazil and wait for the full disclosure of the campaign.
