With 30 available spots, the free distance learning course from the Federal Institute is aimed at continuing education and professional training for teachers who work with native language, foreign language, or second language teaching in public and private schools or language institutes. Applications are open and can be made online, without any fee.

Check the Structure of the Free Distance Learning Graduate Course and Workload
The distance learning graduate course will have a total workload of 420 hours, with 360 hours dedicated to mandatory subjects and 60 hours for the Course Completion Work (TCC). The maximum duration is 30 months, divided into four semesters.
During the first three semesters, students will take 12 subjects organized into six modules. In the last semester, the focus will be entirely on the preparation of the TCC, with individualized guidance.
Although the format is distance learning (EAD), the course includes in-person meetings on Saturdays, at the beginning and end of each module, at IFSP – Capivari Campus, located at Avenida Doutor Ênio Pires de Camargo, No. 2971, Bairro São João Batista, in Capivari (SP). Some synchronous meetings may also take place online, according to the schedule of each subject.
100% Free Distance Learning Course Accessible to All of Brazil
One of the great advantages is that the course is 100% free – there are no application fees, enrollment fees, or tuition. This initiative is part of the Federal Institute’s commitment to expanding access to quality public education and continuing education for professionals nationwide.
Furthermore, the issued certificate has national validity and is recognized by the Ministry of Education (MEC), guaranteeing the graduate the title of specialist in Language Teaching.
Vacancies and Affirmative Actions
The course offers 30 spots in total, with 19 for open competition, 9 reserved for self-declared black, indigenous, or quilombola candidates, and 2 for persons with disabilities (PCD), as per current legislation.
These affirmative actions are supported by Law No. 15,142/2025 and IFSP Resolution No. 41/2017, which reinforce the institution’s commitment to inclusion and diversity.
How the Selection Process Will Be
The selection process will be conducted in a single stage, consisting of two qualifying evaluations:
- Curriculum Analysis, which will score academic background, teaching experience, and participation in educational events.
- Letter of Intent, in which the candidate must present their professional background, motivations, and objectives with the course, as well as demonstrate conceptual mastery of language teaching.
Both documents must be submitted in PDF format at the time of application.
It is important to emphasize that letters of intent produced using artificial intelligence tools may be disqualified, according to the public notice Edital PGEL – Class of 2026.
Requirements to Participate
Graduates in any area recognized by the MEC may apply, with preference for those graduated in Language Studies or professionals who work in language teaching. A diploma or certificate of completion of higher education is required.
During the application, the candidate must attach personal documents, Currículo Lattes, proof of experience, and the letter of intent. As the course is online, it is recommended to have regular access to the internet and a computer to follow the activities.
