In a scenario where technology constantly redefines public health paradigms, the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), in partnership with the Ministry of Health, launched the free online course “Introduction to Digital Health”.
The training aims to empower health professionals and students to understand and ethically and efficiently apply digital technologies in the context of the Unified Health System (SUS).

The initiative aims to connect citizens to the SUS with equity, innovation, and efficiency, according to information available on the Fiocruz Virtual Campus portal.
Course Covers Fundamentals and Innovations in Digital Health
With a workload of 45 hours and a self-instructional format, the course “Introduction to Digital Health” addresses essential content such as the fundamentals of digital health, health information technology, information systems, electronic data management, information security, and personal data protection.
Additionally, it explores innovations in digital health, considering the challenges and possibilities of this field.
Strategic Partnership Between Fiocruz and the Ministry of Health
The course is a partnership between the Fiocruz Virtual Campus (CVF) and the Institute of Communication and Information Scientific and Technological in Health (Icict), integrating the Training Program in Data Science and Information in Health for the SUS.
The initiative involves various units of Fiocruz and the Ministry of Health, through the Department of Information and Informatics of the SUS (DataSUS) and the General Coordination of Innovation and Health Informatics of the Department of Information and Digital Health (Seidigi/MS).
Innovative Methodology Using xAPI
To enhance the learning experience, the course uses the xAPI (Experience API) protocol, which allows detailed tracking of students’ educational interactions, regardless of the platform used.
This approach enables a more comprehensive view of users’ learning journeys, facilitating decision-making and the improvement of educational strategies.
