Green Revolution in Offshore Drilling
Foresea, a renowned company in the offshore drilling segment, has achieved a remarkable milestone in the Brazilian oil and gas market. The company has become the first in the sector to fully reuse 100% of the waste generated in its maritime and land operations. This sustainability milestone in the industry is a result of the Zero Landfill program, integrating ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) strategies and following the guidelines of the UN Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
The Journey to Total Reuse
In 2019, Foresea launched the challenging Zero Landfill project, aiming to completely eliminate the disposal of waste in landfills. By 2022, the company achieved this goal, and in 2023, made even further progress by managing to reuse all waste. According to Heitor Gioppo, COO of Foresea, this success was the result of fine-tuning processes, achieving a reuse rate of 99% on over 1,835 tons of waste in the previous year. The recycled materials included metals, plastics, paper, tetrapaks, batteries, and others, while waste contaminated with oils and greases was coprocessed for use in cement kilns.
Innovation and Socio-Environmental Impact
Under the leadership of Vice President of Sustainability Marco Aurélio Fonseca, Foresea not only met its environmental goal but also positively impacted the market. The financial returns obtained from waste reuse are entirely reinvested in socio-environmental projects. This reflects the company’s commitment to sustainability and the promotion of a positive social impact.

Digital Technology in Sustainability
The achievement of 100% reuse was aided by the implementation of a Digital Sustainability system. This system integrated data and spreadsheets for waste disposal and reuse from all company units into a single dashboard. Carlos Júnior, Executive Sustainability Manager, and his team involved the company’s managers in the digital updating of data, developing new strategies for managing final waste disposal, prioritizing recycling and reuse.
