The deficiencies in logistics infrastructure in Santa Catarina are already a recurring theme in political and business spheres. Technical studies point out that the lack of investments in structural and foundational projects is pressing, and their absence may even impact a logistical blackout.
The study “Industry Agenda for Infrastructure,” prepared by the Federation of Industries of Santa Catarina (Fiesc), shows the need for investments between 2023 and 2026 in federal, state, municipal, and private spheres in the road modal (R$ 14.5 billion), waterway (R$ 1.72 billion), rail (R$ 985 million), air (R$ 695 million), and pipeline (R$ 510 million).
“Santa Catarina ranks 19th in Brazil in terms of road quality, is the second state in the number of accidents, second in the number of accidents with victims, and fourth in accidents with fatalities. From 2011 to 2021, we had 142,100 accidents and 5,000 deaths on federal highways in Santa Catarina,” notes Fiesc president Mário Cezar de Aguiar. He also cites research from the National Transport Confederation (CNT), according to which, 68% of SC highways are rated as terrible, poor, or fair. The same research points out that the segment of BR-163 in Santa Catarina is the worst federal highway in the country.
