The FPSO MV30 Will Be Operated by Petrobras in the Sépia Field, in the Pre-Salt of the Santos Basin and Will Start Producing and Generating Jobs in 2021
The giants Petrobras and Modec are close to putting another FPSO oil platform into operation in 2021. The MV30 left China (Cosco Dalian shipyard) in November heading for Brazil to operate in the Sépia field, and according to Petrobras, the unit will arrive this week at the Brasfels shipyard, a subsidiary of the Keppel Group in Brazil that historically assembles modules and topsides for Modec.

The FPSO Carioca will undergo the final integration and commissioning activities at the Brasfels shipyard in Angra dos Reis before departing for its final destination, the Sépia field in the Santos Basin.
Named “FPSO CARIOCA,” the MV30 was a VLCC ship from the Belgian company Euronave that was sold and converted, optimizing costs and saving time in the construction of the FPSO. The purchase price of the ship was USD 45 million in 2017. From bow to stern, the unit measures 332 meters.

This contract that Modec signed was finalized in October 2017 with the Brazilian state-owned company. A very precise alignment was necessary between the Chinese shipyard Cosco Dalian, which was converting the ship, and the Brasfels shipyard, which was manufacturing the modules and topsides.
About the FPSO Carioca – MV 30
According to Petrobras, the unit is expected to start production in mid-2021. When completed, the FPSO “Carioca MV30” will have the capacity to process 180,000 barrels of crude oil per day (bpd) and 212 million cubic meters of gas per day. The storage capacity of the unit is 1.4 million barrels of crude oil.
The FPSO will be deployed in the Sépia field, operated by Petrobras, located in the vast pre-salt region of the Santos Basin approximately 250 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in water depth of about 2,200 meters.
This is the 13th FPSO/FSO that MODEC will provide in Brazil, as well as the 6th FPSO from MODEC in the pre-salt after the FPSO Cidade de Angra dos Reis MV22, FPSO Cidade de São Paulo MV23, FPSO Cidade de Mangaratiba MV24, FPSO Cidade de Itaguaí MV26, and FPSO Cidade de Caraguatatuba MV27, which achieved First Oil Production in December 2016.
Petrobras Requests IBAMA License to Operate the FPSO Carioca in the Pre-Salt of the Santos Basin
Petrobras requested in October last year from the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA), the Operating License for the Sépia Production and Flow Development Project, which will be carried out through the FPSO Carioca.
