Technical Visit to Rio de Janeiro Strengthens Commitment to the Naval Industry

The Mixed Parliamentary Front in Defense of the Brazilian Naval Industry, led by federal deputy Alexandre Lindenmeyer (PT-RS), conducted technical visits to the Renave and Mauá shipyards in Rio de Janeiro. This meeting, held on Friday (17), aimed to strengthen dialogue with universities and institutions involved in the revitalization of the country’s naval sector.

The Purpose of the Visit to the Shipyards

The mission of the Parliamentary Front is clear: to closely understand the structures and potentials of the shipbuilding units. The group noted that, despite the installed capacity, the shipyards are generating employment and income far below their potential. “We are on an important journey to restore the naval industry, a strategic sector for Brazil,” emphasized Lindenmeyer, highlighting the active role of the Parliamentary Front in this process.

Reindustrialization and the Future of the Naval Industry

The president of the Front highlights the vital importance of the naval industry in the context of the country’s reindustrialization and in repositioning Brazil in the new global economic order. The resumption of investments in the naval, offshore, and ship parts industries since the 2000s has had a significant impact on the economy, generating jobs and developing a robust network of domestic suppliers.

The vice-president of the Front, federal deputy Jandira Feghali (PCdoB-RJ), highlighted the relevance of the technical visits made to the shipyards. “We received proposals to help in the sector’s recovery and diagnosed bottlenecks that greatly contribute to the work of the Front.”

Defense of National Sovereignty and Resumption of the Sector

Joacir Pedro, director of the Unique Federation of Petroleum Workers (FUP), emphasized the importance of the Parliamentary Front in defending national sovereignty and resuming the naval sector. “It is essential to have Petrobras projects being carried out in Brazil,” he said. The 1st secretary of the Front, federal deputy Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ), recalled that the best moments for the naval sector were during the governments of Lula and Dilma, highlighting the need to resume the policy of valuing local content.

Dialogue with Universities and Building a Report

The members of the Front met with rectors of important universities in Rio de Janeiro to discuss prospects for the recovery of the naval industry. The goal is to construct a report that outlines pathways for the revitalization of quality jobs and for improving legislation, overcoming bottlenecks, and boosting the naval industry.

Participation of Key Representatives

The agenda also included the participation of state deputy Verônica Lima (PT-RJ) and representatives from entities such as Petrobras, Transpetro, Sinaval, among others. These visits to the shipyards are essential for gathering knowledge and compiling proposals from workers and the industry, aiming for the growth and strengthening of the naval segment, which is so important for the country’s economy.
