About the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation
Originally inaugurated to manufacture serums and vaccines against the bubonic plague, the institution has experienced, since then, an intense trajectory, which is intertwined with the development of public health in the country.
In the hands of bacteriologist Oswaldo Cruz, the Institute was responsible for the health reform that eradicated the bubonic plague and yellow fever epidemics in the city. And soon it went beyond the limits of Rio de Janeiro, with scientific expeditions that explored the far reaches of the country.
