Want a Certificate from USP Without Spending Anything? USP’s Free Online Course Promises to Change Your Perspective on Climate, Literature, and the Environment: Applications Open.
The University of São Paulo (USP) has just launched an opportunity that promises to attract both educators and knowledge enthusiasts: the Course in Literature and Ecology. There are 200 available spots in a fully EAD, free, and open to the public program that connects literature, culture, and the most pressing debates about the environment and climate change. If you seek academic updating or wish to broaden your worldview, this is the perfect chance.
A Program That Connects Literature and the Environment
The main objective of USP’s online course is to provide critical tools to analyze literary works through the lens of ecology and contemporary climate issues.
The program has a total workload of 32 hours, distributed in virtual meetings on Saturdays, from 9 AM to 1 PM, between September 13 and November 8, 2025.

During classes, participants will engage with classic and modern authors, such as Homer, Mary Shelley, Mário de Andrade, Italo Calvino, and Graciliano Ramos, in addition to discussions about the Amazon, mineral extraction, and what is called Climate Fiction (cli-fi).
The proposal goes beyond reading: it is an invitation to reflect on how art interacts with the environmental dilemmas of our time.
Offered Course and Nationally Available Spots
- Literature and Ecology
This is the only course offered in this announcement, but its robust and interdisciplinary structure makes it a comprehensive program, especially relevant for teachers of Geography, Environmental Law, Psychology, and related fields.
There will be 200 spots available, all in the online (EAD) format. The remote format increases accessibility, allowing candidates from any region of Brazil to participate.
For many elementary and high school teachers, this is an opportunity to enrich their classes with examples that unite literature and ecology, adding value to the teaching-learning process.
Selection by Live Electronic Drawing on YouTube
The selection will be made by electronic drawing, scheduled for September 12, 2025. This model ensures transparency and equal opportunities for all applicants.
Unlike other announcements, there will be no exam, curriculum analysis, or specific quotas: everyone competes under equal conditions to fill the spots.
Requirements to Participate
There is no requirement for prior academic training. USP’s course is open to both specialists and the general public interested in literature and ecology.
The only requirement is to have access to a computer or smartphone with stable internet, as the activities, including live classes and discussion forums, will be conducted remotely.
This accessibility expands the reach of the initiative, making it inclusive and democratic.
Selection Process Schedule
- Application Deadline: September 11, 2025
