Golf Car Abandoned for Over a Year and Owner Still Not Identified. Learn More About This Peculiar Story

Parking at the airport can be a real challenge for your wallet, but a recent case in Germany took this issue to an unexpected extreme. A Volkswagen Golf has been forgotten for over a year at Brandenburg Airport in Berlin, and is now accumulating a parking debt exceeding R$ 1.2 million, according to the website CanalTech.

The Golf vehicle, which has been at the location since January 2024, was finally towed last Tuesday (11). If the Golf’s owner shows up to retrieve the car, they will have to face a staggering bill, the result of a rate of US$ 24 per hour (about R$ 144).

Mystery Surrounds Abandonment of Vehicle at Airport

Local authorities have still not been able to identify the owner of the “abandoned” vehicle at the airport, nor the reasons why it was left behind. The mystery deepened when police discovered that the Golf’s plates were registered to another vehicle from Hannover.

The hypothesis that the vehicle was used in a criminal escape has been considered, especially since remnants of food and a half-full water bottle were found inside the car, indicating a hasty abandonment.

Million-Dollar Bill Still Needs to Be Paid

Airport management hopes someone will take responsibility for the accumulated daily fees, which total US$ 552 per day (about R$ 3.3 thousand). However, since the parking is private and not a public road, authorities are in no hurry to resolve the case.

Meanwhile, the Golf remains an unusual example of how simple parking can turn into a million-dollar debt. Time will tell if the owner will show up — and if they can afford to pay the bill.
