With the aim of generating competitiveness and reducing emissions, the Government intends to launch a program to encourage the creation of jobs in the sectors of renewable energy, ecotourism, agriculture, basic sanitation and several others.

Joaquim Leite, Minister of the Environment, told CNN this Wednesday (22) that he is working on the project to generate jobs in renewable energy, agriculture and other sectors alongside Paulo Guedes, Minister of Economy and says that the program will have its release at the end of October.

Leite presented the general lines of the plan for climate change in New York to the representative of the US president, John Kerry, the British prime minister, Boris Johnson and the president of COP26, Alok Sharma.

According to the minister, Kerry offered technical assistance for the execution of the Brazilian Government's program, since the approach is similar to the one adopted by the US government of investing in the productive sectors and in the updating of the infrastructure with the objective of reducing emissions of pollutants. Leite accepted the help and stated that it could be started by the American companies present in Brazil, from agriculture to car assemblers.

Federal Government pronounces on the generation of new job openings

In his speech on the jobs program in the renewable energy, agriculture and other sectors in the Assembly, Bolsonaro emphasized that the future of sustainable jobs lies in Brazil, citing the six sectors of the economy.

According to Joaquim, the president took literally all the suggested passages that were included in the speech on the subject of the environment. The minister also stated that the data cited by the president are correct. The 32% reduction in deforestation in August compared to the same period last year was measured by INPE, which officially provides monthly data.

The Minister of the Environment attributed the reduction in deforestation to increased inspection. The budget of the environmental agencies rose to almost half a million, which was previously R$ 228 million. New 739 jobs were created for new ICMBio inspectors.

Brazilian government pronounces on the expansion of the sustainable agriculture market

The statement made by Bolsonaro, that Brazilian agriculture occupies 8% of the national territory, comes from data provided by Embrapa, which calculates this index at 7,8%, and by NASA, which reports 7,6%.

According to the minister, livestock occupies 19%, but Bolsonaro has focused only on agriculture. Leite, said he offered the president of COP26 the achievements of management with countries with which Brazil has better communication than the United Kingdom, to present more ambitious targets for reducing pollutant emissions. Joaquim Leite claims that Sharma accepted the help and that he has already spoken with authorities from 27 countries and still intends to speak with 50 more before the conference in Glasgow.
