After Seven Months of Negotiations, SP Government Announces a New Buyer for the Factory That Ford Closed in February, Dismissing Almost a Thousand People
Seven months after announcing the closure of its factory in São Bernardo (SP), and announcing in July the start of mass layoffs, Ford announced that Caoa is strongly interested in purchasing the factory in the ABC region of São Paulo.
The announcement was made by São Paulo Governor João Dória, who also stated that the deal is expected to be finalized within 45 days.
Without disclosing the amounts involved in the negotiation, the Governor of São Paulo, who has been assisting in the sale negotiations since Ford announced the factory’s closure, expressed great satisfaction with the favorable outcome of the negotiations.

Hungarian mothers began confronting electric car battery factories over fears of contaminated water and industrial waste, saying the green industry was poisoning the neighborhood.
The factory in São Bernardo (SP) was responsible for producing the Fiesta, whose production has already ended, and also for Ford’s truck line.
According to Wagnão, president of the Metalworkers’ Union of ABC, Caoa will begin by hiring about 750 workers, which combined with the 600 employees who remained on the truck assembly line and other workers who were laid off in recent months, will total 1,800 job positions to operate the factory of the new owner.
The union leader also stated that Ford will continue manufacturing trucks in São Bernardo (SP) until the end of October, and from there, Caoa is expected to take over operations.
Caoa will continue the production of Ford trucks under a licensing agreement, paying royalties to the American automaker.

Carlos Alberto de Oliveira Andrade, chairman of Caoa’s board, confirmed that a new vehicle will be produced at the factory, but it will not be from the Chinese automaker Chery or the South Korean Hyundai, brands that it markets in Brazil, “It will be another brand,” said the new owner. It is speculated in the market that it may be a vehicle from the Chinese automaker Changan.
The new owner of the factory in São Bernardo (SP) has factories in Anápolis (GO), from where the SUVs Tiggo 5X and Tiggo 7 from Chery are produced, as well as the sports utility vehicles ix35 and New Tucson from Hyundai; and in Jacareí, in the interior of São Paulo, which is responsible for producing the Arrizo 5 sedan and the Tiggo 2 SUV, both from Chery.
