A strong explosion hit the Bandar Abbas port in southwestern Iran, leaving four dead and 516 injured, according to reports from Iranian state media and emergency services. The incident occurred in the Shahid Rajaee area of the port complex, one of the main ones in the country.
Explosion Causes Destruction And Fires
Images from security cameras, released by the Mehr news agency, captured the moment of the explosion. The fire spread rapidly, requiring the dispatch of helicopters to help combat the flames.
State media reported that debris spread over a large area and that many buildings in the complex were severely damaged.

Immediate Reaction And Emergency Measures
The governor of the region, Mohammad Ashouri Taziani, stated that the injured were taken to medical centers in Bandar Abbas.
According to him, the fire has been brought under control. Port operations have been suspended and the site remains closed for new activities, according to state media.
The Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian, ordered an investigation into the cause of the accident. In a post on the X platform, he announced that the Interior Minister was dispatched to the region to closely monitor the situation.
Preliminary Investigations Indicate Chemical Storage
According to the state broadcaster IRIB, the explosion occurred in the area designated for the storage of chemicals and sulfur.
The government spokesperson, Fatemeh Mohajerani, stated that the containers possibly contained chemicals. However, she emphasized that only after the complete extinguishment of the fire will it be possible to determine the precise cause.
The Shahid Rajaee port is one of the largest container facilities in Iran, handling about 70 million tons of cargo per year and housing more than 500,000 square meters of warehouses.
