Compact SUV from Volkswagen appears among the best sellers in the country in March and closes in on high-volume models, in a movement that catches attention in the partial ranking and expands the dispute in the Brazilian market.
The Volkswagen Tera has taken a prominent position in the Brazilian market in the partial data for March 2026.
By March 22, the model totaled 5,135 registrations, ahead of the Volkswagen T-Cross, with 4,628, and close to hatches that traditionally appear among the best sellers, such as Hyundai HB20 and Fiat Mobi.
In the partial survey of the best-selling cars in the country up to that date, the Volkswagen Polo was leading, with 6,846 units.

Peugeot publicly acknowledged the errors of the PureTech engine, which caused serious failures in hundreds of thousands of cars, and introduced the new Turbo 100 as a definitive solution, a 1.2 turbo tested for over 3 million kilometers that replaces the faulty belt with a more durable chain.
Following were Chevrolet Onix, with 5,538, Hyundai HB20, with 5,404, and Fiat Mobi, with 5,221.
Right after came the Tera, with 5,135.
Among the SUVs, the model also appeared ahead of the Hyundai Creta, which recorded 4,477 units.
Volkswagen Tera among the best sellers in March
The partial numbers indicate that the Tera quickly entered the competition for the top positions in the market.
In the case of SUVs, the model was already ahead of established competitors.
In the overall ranking, the difference to HB20 and Mobi was also reduced in the consulted data.

This partial performance does not allow for anticipating the consolidated result of the month.
Still, the data shows that the Tera has started to share space with higher volume selling vehicles, both among SUVs and among more traditional compact models.
Engine options of the Volkswagen Tera in Brazil
In Brazil, the Tera is sold with two main engine options.
The entry-level version uses the 1.0 MPI with 84 hp and 101 Nm, always with a manual transmission.
Meanwhile, the configurations equipped with the 170 TSI engine deliver 116 hp and 165 Nm, with options for manual or automatic transmission, depending on the version.
The engine offerings place the model in distinct price ranges and proposals.
In practice, Volkswagen has begun to offer everything from an entry-level configuration to variants with a mechanical setup closer to what is already seen in other products from the brand in the compact and SUV segments.
Equipment and technology of the Volkswagen SUV
Among the items disclosed by the manufacturer are 10.25-inch digital dashboard, 10.1-inch VW Play Connect multimedia center, connectivity services integrated into the My VW app, and wireless phone charging in specific versions.

In the external design, the brand mentions the presence of full LED headlights, LED taillights, and, in certain configurations, diamond alloy wheels.
These features place the Tera within the standard currently adopted by a good part of the compact SUVs launched in the Brazilian market.
Price of the Volkswagen Tera and value mentioned in the title
The value of R$ 96,120.00 mentioned in the title was not found, in the consulted public sources, as the official retail price of the model.
At launch, in May 2025, Volkswagen announced the Tera with prices starting at R$ 99,990 in a special batch of the entry-level version.
After that, the manufacturer itself announced an offer for the Tera MPI for R$ 103,626, below the previous price of R$ 108,390.
By August 2025, a survey published by the specialized press recorded the 1.0 MPI version at R$ 105,890 after adjustment.
Without an official public reference for the R$ 96,120.00, it is not possible to assert, with certainty, that this is the list price of the vehicle at retail.
The value may be linked to a specific sales condition, such as negotiation for legal entities, regional bonuses, or operations aimed at fleet buyers, but this information did not appear confirmed in the consulted material.

Partial ranking puts Tera close to HB20 and Mobi
In the SUV segment, the T-Cross remained one of the most relevant names in the market, but appeared behind the Tera in this partial data for March.
The Creta also followed in the sequence, reinforcing the concentration of competition among high-volume compact models.
In the overall ranking, the proximity to HB20 and Mobi caught attention because both hatchbacks maintain a recurring presence among the best-selling cars in the country.
In the partial survey, the HB20 totaled 5,404 units and the Mobi, 5,221, both still ahead of the Tera, but by a limited difference.
This scenario suggests a more direct competition between different market categories, at least at the beginning of the month.
Instead of competing only with other SUVs, the Tera has also begun to appear close to compact models with a consolidated sales history.
Change in the ranking of best-selling cars
The reading of the available numbers indicates an important change in the composition of the top positions in the partial ranking.
The Tera was not yet leading the market, but it was already among the five best-selling vehicles in the analyzed period.
Moreover, the model appeared above the T-Cross and close to high-volume vehicles, such as HB20 and Mobi.
