The HMS Bulwark, measuring 170 meters in length, is designed for multiple types of operations.
According to Navy officials, in addition to amphibious missions, the ship can be employed in humanitarian actions, supply transport, and support in public disaster situations.
Operational Potential of the HMS Bulwark
With space for 290 crew members and a capacity to transport up to 710 military personnel, the vessel becomes a strategic asset for Brazil.
In addition to conventional military missions, the ship will be used for oversight and protection of the Blue Amazon, an area rich in natural resources such as minerals and oil, often targeted by international espionage.
In April 2023, the Brazilian Navy had to prevent the presence of a German ship conducting unauthorized research in the region of the Rio Grande Elevation, highlighting the importance of strengthening maritime surveillance.
Training and Arrival of the Vessel
Currently, the ship is undergoing a complete overhaul in Plymouth, United Kingdom.
In September, 48 Brazilian military personnel will board for training and oversight of the work, while in November, another 44 professionals will be trained to operate the vessel.
The remaining crew will head to England next year for final commissioning.
The forecast is that the HMS Bulwark will arrive in Brazil in 2026, fully revitalized.
