After Falling From a 40-Meter Cliff in Cévennes, France, 77-Year-Old Survived Three Days Just With a Bottle of Red Wine Until Being Rescued by Helicopter
What started as a simple bicycle ride to the supermarket in Cévennes, France, turned into an impressive story of resilience. A 77-year-old man, after buying a bottle of red wine, suffered a serious accident on his way home and survived for three days trapped in a ravine.
The 40-Meter Fall
According to international press reports, the elderly man was cycling on a winding road in the mountains when he lost control on a curve and fell from a height of about 40 meters.
The accident occurred in Saint-Julien-des-Points, and the man ended up on the banks of the Gardon River, in a rocky and hard-to-reach area.

Unable to climb back up, he remained isolated at the site. He tried to call for help several times, shouting whenever he heard cars passing by, but no one managed to hear him in time.
Three Days With Just a Bottle of Wine
What kept the cyclist alive, according to reports from CBS News and The Independent, was the contents of the bag he was carrying: a bottle of red wine.
It was the only item he had available to hydrate himself during the three days he was trapped.
Even weakened and suffering from intense cold, the man persevered. According to firefighters, he attempted to climb the ravine several times and even fell back into the stream during his escape attempts.
Unexpected Rescue
Salvation came on Tuesday, October 28, when technicians from the Interdepartmental Directorate of Roads, who were working nearby, heard the cries for help.
They managed to locate the damaged bicycle on the slope and called for rescue.
Teams from the Hérault Fire Department arrived quickly and used a helicopter to lift the elderly man from the ravine. He was taken to a hospital in the region.
A True Miracle
According to the French newspaper Entrevue, the man suffered only minor injuries and a moderate case of hypothermia.
The chief doctor of the firefighters, Dr. Laurent Savath, explained that the condition was caused by the time he spent in the cold water while trying to climb the ravine.
The professional labeled the survivor as “a miracle.” According to Savath, amid the cold, humidity, and lack of food, he demonstrated extraordinary physical and mental strength.
