More Than 90% Of MPIs Say The Economy Will Be Affected By The Tragedies In RS. Satisfaction Index Of MPIs Is 121 Points, But Working Capital Is Insufficient.

According to a recent survey conducted by SIMPI/Datafolha, more than 90% of MPIs believe that the tragedies in Rio Grande do Sul will have a significant impact on the Brazilian economy. This survey identified that all economic sectors will feel the effects of the floods and rains, with MPIs anticipating difficulties in the coming months. Moreover, the available working capital for these companies is currently the lowest ever recorded in the survey.

The survey highlights the situation of micro and small industries, which already face significant challenges due to insufficient working capital. More than 90% of MPIs at the national level recognize that the consequences of the weather events in Rio Grande do Sul will further exacerbate these challenges. The survey, in its 13th edition, presents a scenario where economic recovery will be difficult for these small businesses, requiring urgent measures to mitigate the impacts.

Economic Outlook For Micro And Small Industries In May

The National Activity Indicator survey of Micro and Small Industry conducted by SIMPI in partnership with Datafolha presents a multifaceted perspective on the economic scenario for the month of May, with a special focus on the tragedies that occurred in Rio Grande do Sul. Additionally, the survey provides a comprehensive view of the economic aspects of the last two months, delving into the analysis of the future of MPIs.

Satisfaction Of Micro And Small Industries In Different Regions

Analyzing the satisfaction index of MPIs at the national level, the index has risen and reached the same value observed at this time last year, registering 121 points. The Northeast emerges as the region with the highest satisfaction, totaling 126 points, contrasting with the municipality of São Paulo, where the score was 115 points. However, when observing the disaggregate components, the evaluation of companies remains the most positive, reaching 139 points.

When we analyze each component individually, the South stands out as the most satisfied region regarding the assessment of companies, totaling 144 points, and also leads in terms of revenue, with 120 points.

Challenges Of Working Capital For Small Industries

Expectations for working capital present a pessimistic outlook, with 53% of MPIs reporting insufficient working capital, the worst result ever recorded by the National Activity Indicator of Micro and Small Industry SIMPI/Datafolha. Only 8% of the companies surveyed revealed having more than enough working capital. This context is concerning for the financial health of companies, especially micro and small industries.

Regarding the means used to secure working capital, 14% of MPIs resorted to overdrafts, followed by 11% who sought personal loans. Small industries are the main users of overdrafts, with 27% of companies adopting this solution.

Impact Of Climatic Tragedies On The Brazilian Economy

Regarding the climatic tragedies that occurred in Rio Grande do Sul, the data reveal widespread concern about the consequences on various aspects of the Brazilian economy, such as rising inflation and raw material costs. More than 90% of MPIs express concern about the domestic economy, particularly with rising inflation in the country.

Furthermore, the supply chain and the supply of products and services are also concerns for MPIs. More than 80% of small businesses expressed concern about these aspects. In the South, 50% of MPIs believe that the supply of products will undergo significant changes in the economy, while in the Northeast this figure is 58%.

Preparation For Climatic Tragedies

When analyzing the specific data from Rio Grande do Sul, it is evident that the main source of supply and clientele for the MPIs in the region was severely affected by the rains, with 47% of MPIs playing a fundamental role in the domestic economy. However, 59% of small industries in the region claim not to have been directly affected by the rains.

Finally, looking to the future, it is evident that industries show a significant level of unpreparedness to face climatic tragedies such as floods, droughts, and extreme heat. The survey revealed that 33% of MPIs do not feel prepared for floods and inundations, 24% for extreme heat situations, and 29% for droughts.
