Those who wish to start a technical or higher education must pay attention, as the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS) announced on February 7, 2025, the opening of 1,344 free spots in technical and undergraduate courses. According to information released on IFRS’s official website, the opportunities are aimed at various fields of knowledge and are part of the institution’s commitment to expand access to quality education. The spots will be filled throughout 2025, and candidates should follow the deadlines and application requirements on the Institute’s official channels.

Register for the Free Technical Courses at IFRS
registrations can be made from February 7 to February 13, exclusively online, through the Institute of Federal Education of Rio Grande do Sul registrations page. To register for the free technical courses, it will be necessary to have the access password and login of the gov.br account, the government portal that aims to facilitate access to public services. If you do not have an account registered on the portal yet, the interested party needs to create an account.

Petrobras will pay for you to take a course: in partnership with Senai, there are 2,000 free spots with assistance of up to R$ 858 per month and a certificate recognized by the MEC in industrial areas with high demand in Brazil until 2026.
To enroll in one of the free higher education courses, the candidate must have already taken a selection exam for the Undergraduate Course at IFRS. The selection must be any from the selection process of 2019/1 and must not have been classified as eliminated.
The candidate has the option to have participated in one of the editions of the National High School Exam (Enem) from 2015 onwards and not have scored zero in any of the tests, including the essay (scores from the Enem taken as a practice test will not be considered).
It is worth mentioning that the new scores from the IFRS test or the Enem will not be used for classification purposes. Classification for the free technical courses will be based on the order of registration in the IFRS system.

There are options for free technical and higher education courses at the campuses of Alvorada, Canoas, Bento Gonçalves, Caxias do Sul, Erechim, Feliz, Farroupilha, Ibirubá, Porto Alegre, Osório, Restinga (Porto Alegre), Rolante, Rio Grande, Sertão, Veranópolis, Vacaria, and Viamão.
All free technical courses are in-person, except for the Subsequence Technical Course to High School in Didactic Multimedia at the Osório Campus, which is in the Distance Education modality (EaD).
