Santos Brasil Invests in Its Container Terminal at the Port of Santos and Expects Increased Productivity and Job Creation
Santos Brasil, operator of the largest container terminal in South America, at the Port of Santos is investing R$ 300 million with the aim of increasing the terminal’s capacity by 20%.
As part of the investments, the company received last Sunday (05/05), a package of thirty terminal tractors, equipment used for the movement of containers in the terminal.
The technology of the vehicles was entirely developed in China, exclusively for the company which is still awaiting the delivery of more equipment, such as two portainers and 30 trailers.

According to Marlos Tavares, Operations Director at Santos Brasil, the company has invested R$ 50 million just in technology, with R$ 10 million in the technology park of the Container Terminal (Tecon) in Santos.
To ensure the terminal tractors met expectations, the company sent representatives to China three times, and they will also undergo customization developed specifically for the company.
Job Creation
The vehicles will be driven by company drivers, which is another point highlighted by director Marlos Tavares, who noted the job chain that an increase in container movement will cause, as electronic engineers and more technology professionals will be needed for their maintenance.
“Let’s say that such an investment generates a capacity of 100 more containers at the Port, we are talking about 100 drivers, the gas stations that will sell fuel, we are talking about retroport terminals, we are talking about creating value for the community we are part of,” explained the executive.
