Released In 2000, The Legendary Nokia 3310 Still Sparks Curiosity — And Its Updated Price May Surprise Those Who Lived That Era
The Nokia 3310 marked a generation and became known as one of the most resilient mobile phones in history. Officially launched in September 2000, the device made a strong entry into Brazil the following year. At the time, its price varied, mainly due to promotions with operators, but it could reach R$ 400.
Based on the accumulated inflation since then, this value has changed significantly. Canaltech used the Central Bank’s calculator to update this amount. The result, considering the Broad National Consumer Price Index (IPCA) until April 2025, shows that the same phone would cost R$ 1,566 today.
Another way to understand the value of the Nokia 3310 at the time is to compare it to the minimum wage. In 2001, the minimum wage was R$ 200. This means it would take about two months of basic earnings to buy the phone. Applying this logic to the current minimum wage, which is R$ 1,518, the equivalent value of the device would be R$ 3,036.

Petrobras signed a contract worth R$ 11 billion with the Norwegian company DOF to build four subsea support vessels at the Navship shipyard in Navegantes. The vessels will have hybrid propulsion with batteries and electric motors, and the project is expected to generate 7,000 direct and indirect jobs in Santa Catarina.
Even with these references, it’s important to remember that a phone’s price is not only dependent on inflation. Brands consider various factors, such as manufacturing costs, competition strategies, innovation levels, and market positioning.
How The Nokia 3310 Would Position Itself In The Current Market
If sold today with the same features and its price adjusted for inflation, the Nokia 3310 would be in the mid-range segment. This is a market range where Nokia no longer operates as strongly but is still highly contested by other brands.
Several popular models fall within this same price segment. The Galaxy A36 from Samsung, for example, was released in March 2025 and can be found for approximately R$ 1,600. The Moto G56 from Motorola was recently launched at R$ 1,799, but this price is likely to drop soon. Another example is the Redmi Note 14 5G from Xiaomi, which costs around R$ 1,500.
These devices offer specifications far superior to those of the Nokia 3310, reflecting the industry’s evolution over the past few years. Nonetheless, the old phone remains a symbol of an era.
Technical Specifications Of The Iconic Device
The Nokia 3310 had very limited features compared to today’s smartphones. Still, it adequately met the needs of the time. Below are the main specifications of the model:
- 1.5-inch monochrome screen with a resolution of 84 x 48 pixels;
- 900 mAh battery, lasting over 10 days depending on usage;
- Physical keyboard with T9 writing system;
- Absence of both front and rear cameras;
- Four pre-installed games, including the famous Snake II and Space Impact.
Even with its technical limitations, the Nokia 3310 remains in the memory of many users. Whether for its robust design, long-lasting battery, or simple games, it represents a milestone in mobile telephony. Its legacy lives on.
