The Brazilian State Company Petrobras And Other Institutions Are Under The Spotlight Of The Lava Jato, In An Operation Launched Last Friday

The 64th phase of Lava Jato operations of the Federal Police, triggered last Friday (23), led to an operation called “Pentiti,” aimed at investigating possible corruption schemes in pre-salt contracts and asset divestments in the African country, involving Petrobras and Banco Pactual. Graça Foster, former president of the state company, and André Esteves, an executive of the bank, are under investigation by the Federal Police.

Preliminary investigations indicate losses on the order of US$ 1.5 billion or R$ 6 billion at today’s exchange rate due to these alleged fraudulent transactions.
80 federal police officers who make up the investigative body of Lava Jato executed 12 search and seizure warrants. There were 9 in Rio de Janeiro, including a branch of Banco BTG, and 3 at addresses in São Paulo. It is worth noting that there were no arrest warrants.
Gabriela Hardt, judge of the 13th Federal Court of Curitiba, in the state of Paraná, was the one who authorized the incursions.
