The “Vietnamese Lava Jato” Shows No Mercy and Condemns Without Remorse the Former President Who Embezzled Millions from the Country’s Main State Oil Company

[supsystic-social-sharing id=’1′]The Lava Jato operations in Brazil gained international attention because it became the largest police mobilization in the world against corruption, primarily aimed at investigating embezzlement and capturing corrupt officials and bribers at Petrobras, the country’s largest and only state-owned company. But surprisingly, in Vietnam, there is also a version of this type of operation, albeit with a very minor and almost imperceptible difference: CORRUPTION IN GOVERNMENT INSTANCES IS PUNISHED BY DEATH.
It seems like a utopia, doesn’t it? While here (Brazil) these developments seem never-ending, with ever more corruption being uncovered the more they investigate, not only in government instances but also in the private sector, in Vietnam they are more practical and prefer to cut the evil at its root once and for all. Learn more about the story below.

Causes of the Conviction

Nguyen Xuan Son was president of the state-owned oil company PetroVietnam for many years and was arrested in 2015 for corruption, being accused of embezzlement, intentional violation of oil operator rules, and abuse of power. He proclaimed his innocence and will file an appeal to try to escape the “guillotine”.
Vietnam has maintained, over the years, retaliation against corrupt individuals in the financial sector of the country, having conducted a collective trial of 51 company collaborators and bankers for embezzling over R$69 million! In the case of Nguyen Xuan Son, this type of conviction is unprecedented because for the first time, a person from the highest power in the country received the death penalty. Remember that between 2013 and 2016, 429 convicts were sentenced to death in the country.

Embezzlement at Petrobras

It is worth noting that the embezzlement of resources from public revenue has caused many Brazilians to lose their jobs in recent years and destabilized the economy in Brazil. These funds embezzled from Petrobras could have been invested in health, education, security, and job creation. As you can see, in Vietnam, they “proudly declare that the oil belongs to the people.” What do you think? Leave your opinions in the comments below. Source: Vietnam Net
