Construction Of The Solar Power Plant In Porto Alegre – RS

The construction of the solar power plant in Porto Alegre has already begun and is expected to be completed in the first half of this year. The goal is to supply the seven units of the philanthropic institution in the capital with solar energy – a renewable, clean, and sustainable option.

Sustainability is one of the core values of ACM-RS, an institution that is celebrating 120 years of operation in Rio Grande do Sul in 2021. Furthermore, the environment is one of the focus areas of the institution’s work globally (ACM/YMCA is present in 120 countries), and the project in Rio Grande do Sul is an innovative initiative in this field.

Solar Power Plant In Cemetery Area Of RS Will Have More Than 7,000 M² Of Solar Panels

The project for the solar power plant at the old cemetery consists of the installation of 7,000 m² of photovoltaic solar panels, completely filling the area on top of the eight buildings of the João XXIII Ecumenical Cemetery (Av. Natal, No. 60, Medianeira neighborhood), owned and managed by ACM-RS.

“In the capital, there is no other solar photovoltaic plant this large, whether public or private,” says engineer Marcus Purper, one of the individuals responsible for the construction of the plant.

“One of the secrets that we, a nonprofit institution, have to remain alive and active is this constant search for sustainability, which is not merely an economic impulse, but also a social one. When we talk about producing clean energy, we talk about a union between social and economic responsibility,” concludes ACM-RS Secretary-General José Ricardo Calza Caporal.
