In the MEC’s free Spanish courses, students will explore language skills and cultural aspects, from greetings and the alphabet to essential verbs in the present and future. Additionally, this training teaches basic vocabulary for travel, health, and geographical orientation.

In the English course, the classes begin with personal identification, geographical orientation, and transportation. Then, students move on to topics of weather, sports, and leisure. Basic grammar is also covered, focusing on the cost of present verb tenses and possessive pronouns.

The English classes in MEC’s free courses include vocabulary related to travel, food, health, and academic and work environments, as well as more complex grammatical structures, such as modal verbs and different verb tenses. The Ministry of Education also offers three French courses, focused on different areas.

The “Applied French for Management” covers tourist destinations, airports, complaints, health and safety, and has a workload of 40 hours. The classes of this course require reading comprehension in the language and equipment with audio and video.

The “Applied French for Production and Service” addresses accommodation, reservations, and catering services, and has a duration of 30 hours. The third, Basic French, covers introductions, daily life, and descriptions at airports, and is ideal for college and high school students.

It is important to emphasize that these courses are of utmost importance, as learning a foreign language helps open doors for personal, cultural, and professional development. Currently, the job market considers it a basic requirement that the candidate has proficiency in a foreign language.

Get to Know MEC

The history of MEC began in 1930 when the Ministry of Education and Public Health was founded during the government of Getúlio Vargas. As can be seen by the name, education was not the only area addressed by the ministry, which also carried out activities related to health, sports, and the environment.

Only in 1995, under the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso, did education become the exclusive responsibility of the Ministry, although the acronym MEC, created in 1953, was maintained.

This is the portal for the education of all Brazilians. Since 1930, MEC has sought to promote quality education for Brazil. With the launch of the Education Development Plan (PDE) in 2007, MEC has reinforced a systemic view of education, with integrated actions and no competition for funding.
