Petrobras announced, last Monday, 24, the identification of hydrocarbons in the pre-salt of the Campos Basin, reinforcing the exploratory potential of the region. The discovery occurred in the North Brava block, through the exploratory well 1-BRSA-1394-RJS, located 105 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, at a water depth of 575 meters. This discovery reinforces Petrobras’s commitment to expanding reserves in the Brazilian pre-salt.
Details of Drilling and Evaluation of the Discovery
The drilling of the well has been completed, and currently, Petrobras is conducting the final profiling for a detailed evaluation of the hydrocarbons found.
The presence of hydrocarbons in the North Brava block was confirmed through electrical profiles, evidence of gas, and fluid sampling.

These samples will undergo laboratory analysis for more precise characterization, allowing for a better understanding of the reservoir conditions and the production potential of the well.
The consortium led by Petrobras will continue operations to complete the well project and define the next exploratory steps.
The North Brava block represents a strategic asset for the expansion of hydrocarbon exploration in the Campos Basin, one of Brazil’s major offshore production hubs.

Importance of the North Brava Block for Petrobras
The acquisition of the North Brava block by Petrobras occurred in December 2022, during the 1st Cycle of the Permanent Production Sharing Offering, a bidding process conducted by ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels).
The management of the contract is under the responsibility of PPSA (Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A.), and Petrobras is the exclusive operator of the block, holding 100% participation.
With this new discovery of hydrocarbons in the North Brava block, Petrobras reinforces its strategic positioning in pre-salt exploration.
The company continues to invest in the expansion of its reserves, focusing on safe and efficient exploration.
The detailed analysis of the collected data will guide future exploratory activities in the area, contributing to the development of the oil sector in Brazil.
The discovery of hydrocarbons in the North Brava block highlights the potential of the Campos Basin for energy production in Brazil.
Petrobras remains committed to research and development to ensure greater efficiency in its exploratory and productive activities.
