Kia Confirms Ambitious Electric Vehicle Project Beyond “Plan S”, Launched in 2020, Aiming to Highlight Vehicles in the Markets of China, USA, and Europe
Kia Motors has revealed its new electrification project in its vehicle catalog during a presentation event for investors held in South Korea. In the announcement, the Korean brand stated it will introduce 14 electric car models by 2027, with a goal of reaching 4 million sales per year by 2030, with 50% of them being environmentally friendly.

Thus, as Bernardo Castro disclosed in the original article from AutoPapo, for this to actually happen, Kia will need to transform its operations and will invest US$ 23 billion (about R$ 117 billion at the current dollar rate) with the goal that all its electric cars are available in the market within the defined timeframe. Unlike “Plan S,” announced by the same brand in 2020, this project is even more ambitious. This is because the new goal is to establish itself as a “provider of sustainable mobility solutions,” focusing on three essential fundamentals: people, the planet, and profit.
Song Ho-sung, the CEO of Kia, emphasized that this transformation aims to abandon fossil fuel vehicles in favor of the electric vehicle market, as it is a much more promising sector in the coming years.

“We will focus on increasing electric vehicle sales in the four main markets: South Korea, United States, Europe, and China. Places where the demand for electric vehicles is rising and regulations are becoming stricter against combustion vehicles,” he said. Kia’s presence in the markets mentioned by Ho-sung enables greater agility in customer service, as well as reducing logistics costs.
Kia’s Electric Vehicle Plan
The dealership intends to launch at least two new electric vehicles per year in order to complete its lineup within the specified time (by 2027). Thus, Kia has confirmed two electric pickups among the new models, in addition to the EV9 SUV and other sedans, hatchbacks, and electric SUVs that have yet to be announced.
