The Brazilian Navy presented this Monday (06), in Rio de Janeiro, the new armored vehicles acquired from the United States and that will be used in operations of GLO (Guarantee of Law and Order), that is, peacekeeping missions and also military actions, according to the CNN Brasil website.
The armored vehicles of the Brazilian Navy in Rio de Janeiro, called “Joint Light Tactical Vehicles” (JLTVs), were obtained with the purpose of increasing the amphibious operational capacity of the marines.
In total, 12 armored vehicles were obtained by the Brazilian Navy in Rio de Janeiro, and the total cost of this purchase was R$ 15 million, with the delivery date set for the end of 2024, with the armored vehicles purchased through the Proadsumus program of the United States.

The armored vehicle also has the capacity to withstand heavy caliber weapons and technology that meets the demands of the military in Rio de Janeiro.
According to Carlos Chagas Vianna, admiral and commander of the Marine Corps, the armored vehicles of the Brazilian Navy in Rio de Janeiro perform well in urban environments, a characteristic that qualifies the armored vehicles for GLOs.
According to the admiral: “Due to being a constitutional task, we train for GLOs as well. We will assimilate all the lessons learned in these events for increasingly better performance. Everything that happens in an urban environment, whether in a war operation or a Guarantee of Law and Order operation, reinforces the use of the JLTV, in addition to the preparation of the marines.”
Additionally, the armored vehicles of the Brazilian Navy in Rio de Janeiro will be equipped with .50 caliber, MAG 7.62 machine guns and will also launch grenades that can be used on any type of terrain. Each of the armored vehicles cost an average of US$ 250,000. Including maintenance, logistical support, and other equipment, the value of each of the armored vehicles can reach US$ 1 million.
