Elon Musk’s Tesla has already unveiled its own humanoid robot, while Figure AI and Apple have also shown interest in expanding their operations in this segment. Now, Meta, led by Mark Zuckerberg, joins this group by creating a new division focused on robotics within Reality Labs.

Mark Zuckerberg’s New Division For Humanoid Robots

Meta wants to bet on robotics because it believes humanoid robots will be a big business in the future, just as smartphones and artificial intelligence are today. Entering this market can give the company a competitive edge, helping it diversify its products and reduce its dependence on social networks and the metaverse, which has yet to deliver the expected return.

Meta is betting on the combination of artificial intelligence and robotics. To this end, the company will use its own language model, Llama, as a key component in developing humanoid robots.

The goal is clear: to create machines capable of performing physical tasks and interacting with humans in a more natural way. This puts Meta in direct competition with Tesla and Figure AI, both of which already have advanced projects in this area.

There is no information yet on when Meta plans to launch its first prototypes, but the movement behind the scenes indicates that the company is taking this project seriously.

Strategic Hires To Accelerate The Project

To make this endeavor a reality, Meta has made two strategic hires:

Marc Whitten – Former CEO of Cruise, now serves as Vice President of Robotics at Meta and will be responsible for leading this new team.

John Koryl – Former CEO of The RealReal, now takes on the role of Vice President of Retail, tasked with strengthening direct sales of Meta devices such as Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

These moves make it clear that Mark Zuckerberg is not just testing robotics as a secondary project, but is preparing Meta to become a competitive force in this sector.
