The Engineering Giant McDermott Was Hired to Conduct the Transport and Installation of Submarine Equipment in Two Important Oil Fields in Brazil, Aiming to Increase Production.
The American engineering company McDermott secured a new contract with the Brazilian Brava Energia. The work involves the transport and installation of pipelines, umbilicals, and other equipment in deep waters, reinforcing production in important Brazilian fields.
What Does the Agreement with Brava Energia Involve?
The contract signed between McDermott and Brava Energia encompasses transport and installation services for submarine equipment. The operation will focus on two new wells in the Papa-Terra field, in the Campos Basin. Additionally, it includes another two wells for Phase 2 of the Atlanta development, located in Block BS-4, in the Santos Basin. The project scope also includes pre-commissioning services and onshore support.
Expansion of Production in the Papa-Terra and Atlanta Fields
The new wells in the Brazilian fields of Papa-Terra and Atlanta are strategic. Their main objective is to increase the capacity for oil and gas production. Additionally, they aim to extend the lifespan of the existing infrastructure in these deep-water locations, optimizing resources and operational efficiency.

The History of McDermott in Projects in Brazil
The relationship between McDermott and projects in Brazil is not new. The company was previously responsible for the delivery of the traction leg well platform (TLWP) for Papa-Terra. This project was a significant milestone, being the first floating production system with a dry Christmas tree installed in Brazil and the first platform of its kind in all of South America.
The Importance of Submarine Infrastructure for Brazilian Fields
Mahesh Swaminathan, Senior Vice President of McDermott, highlighted the relevance of the project. According to him, submarine infrastructure is essential for ensuring long-term development and sustainability of operations in deep waters. This new contract reinforces the crucial role of submarine technology in the exploration of Brazilian fields.
