With an investment of R$ 60 million in Canhotinho, the slaughterhouse will increase daily slaughter to 900 animals, create 200 jobs, and boost exports while preparing a new R$ 300 million plant in Ceará
Masterboi will invest around R$ 60 million in a new freezing tunnel at the Canhotinho unit, in the Agreste of Pernambuco, to increase industrial production and double its export capacity. With the equipment, the slaughterhouse intends to raise the daily slaughter from 700 to 900 animals.
Freezing tunnel expands Masterboi’s capacity
The new freezing tunnel is Masterboi’s main bet to increase production volume in Pernambuco.
According to the company’s president, Nelson Bezerra, the structure will allow an increase in daily slaughter capacity by 200 animals.

With the expansion, the Canhotinho unit will operate with a capacity of 900 animals per day. The investment is also expected to generate approximately 200 new jobs, expanding the industrial operation’s impact in the Agreste of Pernambuco.
Company targets exports and strengthens retail presence
In addition to production expansion, Masterboi intends to double its export capacity. The progress occurs alongside the company’s commercial strengthening with networks like Atacadão and Assaí.
According to a press release, the company has been consolidating new commercial contracts and expanding its presence in the food retail sector.
The industrial expansion in Canhotinho connects to this movement by allowing greater production scale.
Slaughterhouse in Ceará will have an investment of R$ 300 million
The announcement in Pernambuco comes just over a month after Masterboi formalized another strategic project, this time in Ceará.
The company plans to install a slaughterhouse in Iguatu, with an estimated investment of R$ 300 million.
The unit will mark the return of a large-scale slaughterhouse to the state after 25 years. Construction is expected to begin after the completion of bureaucratic steps, with operations projected to start in 2028.

New plant aims to reduce herd shipment to other states
The choice of Iguatu took into account the logistical infrastructure of Transnordestina, considered strategic for the supply of grains coming from Matopiba, in addition to the water availability guaranteed by the Orós Reservoir.
Initially, the Ceará plant will have the capacity to slaughter 500 cattle per day and is expected to generate more than 500 direct jobs.
Today, a significant portion of Ceará’s herd still goes for slaughter in other states, including Pernambuco.

What is a freezing tunnel and how it works
The freezing tunnel is an industrial equipment used to quickly cool large volumes of meat after processing.
In practice, the pieces pass through a closed structure, where they receive cold air at high speed and controlled temperature, accelerating the thermal drop of the product uniformly.
This process helps preserve meat quality, maintain food safety standards, and prepare the product for storage, transportation, and export.
In the case of Masterboi, the new tunnel installed in Canhotinho will allow for scaling up the operation, increasing the daily slaughter from 700 to 900 animals and supporting the company’s plan to double its export capacity.
