With a capacity for around 50,000 fans, the new stadium in Antiguo Cuscatlán progresses with Chinese support, billion-dollar investment, and an expected completion in 2027, targeting football, shows, and tourism
With an estimated investment of up to US$500 million, approximately R$2.5 billion, El Salvador’s new mega National Stadium is progressing in Antiguo Cuscatlán and promises to transform the country’s sports, tourism, and events infrastructure by 2027.
Mega Stadium Construction Advances to Roofing Stage
Construction has entered one of the project’s most delicate phases, marked by the assembly of the roof, the progress of the stands, and the integration of structural systems.
This stage indicates the physical consolidation of the arena in the metropolitan region of San Salvador.

The new National Stadium is being built in Antiguo Cuscatlán, a municipality connected to the Salvadoran capital.
The work is being carried out by China State Construction Engineering Corporation, known by the acronym CSCEC, with support from the Chinese government.
Effective construction began between 2024 and 2025, following demolition and site preparation phases. The expected delivery is 2027, a timeline that keeps the project among the main sports constructions in Central America.
Arena to Have Around 50,000 Seats
The National Stadium will have a capacity for approximately 50,000 fans and is expected to replace Estádio Cuscatlán as the home of the Salvadoran national team. This change places the new arena at the center of the country’s football.
The proposal, however, goes beyond matches. The space was designed to host large-scale international concerts and events, expanding the use of the structure and reinforcing its role as a multi-purpose facility.
Project Includes Complementary Areas
The complex is expected to feature administrative spaces, VIP zones, parking, outdoor sports areas, and public-oriented structures.
These environments were designed to support the stadium’s operation and the types of events planned.
With these elements, the arena gains a dimension greater than that of a football field. The Salvadoran government hopes to transform the venue into a hub for events and tourism in the region.
Cooperation with China Sustains the Project
The National Stadium is part of the bilateral cooperation between El Salvador and China, resumed after the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The work symbolizes this rapprochement through a project of public visibility.
The estimated value could reach US$500 million, equivalent to approximately R$2.5 billion. With such an investment and an expected completion in 2027, the stadium is set to become one of the country’s most significant constructions.
