Partnership Between Mercado Livre and the State Government of São Paulo Aims at Professionalization and Job Creation
The Governor of the state of São Paulo, João Doria, announced yesterday (05/17) a partnership with Mercado Livre. The company, which offers e-commerce solutions, announced it will invest about R$ 4 billion in the state. This investment is the largest in the same year since the beginning of the current administration, with an estimate of 5,000 new jobs by the end of this year. Investments by Mercado Livre in the State of São Paulo
The company that offers e-commerce solutions for people to buy, sell, advertise, pay, and send products online will invest R$ 4 billion and generate 5,000 jobs in the state of São Paulo by the end of this year. The announcement was made during an event in the municipality of Cajamar, at one of Mercado Livre’s operational points.
Mercado Livre previously announced an investment of R$ 10 billion in Brazil at the beginning of this year, and has now revealed that part of this amount will be allocated to the state of São Paulo. The distribution of the 5,000 available jobs in São Paulo will be as follows: 4,100 will be for logistics, 450 positions will be for professionals in the company’s technology teams, and 450 positions will go to other areas of Mercado Livre.

Training, Qualification, and Entrepreneurship in the State of São Paulo
The partnership between the government of the state of São Paulo and Mercado Livre will also seek to qualify professionals, entrepreneurs, and young students aged 17 to 24 in the regions of Cajamar, Osasco, Sorocaba, and Louveira – areas where Mercado Livre operates, as well as regions where the Paula Souza Center (CPS) is present.
The agreement between Mercado Livre and the state of São Paulo includes offering courses in sales, logistics, and technology. The company will also provide discounts for participants in Empreenda Rápido, a program of the State Secretary of Economic Development and Sebrae-SP. Last year, Mercado Livre helped formalize over 66,000 businesses that started their sales on the platform.

Fernando Yunes, Senior Vice President and Leader of Mercado Livre in Brazil, says they are excited about the progress of partnerships to help promote the economic development of the state of São Paulo, aware of the positive impact this investment will have on all of Mercado Livre’s operations in Brazil.
He also notes that the state of São Paulo is home to about 85% of Mercado Livre’s sellers in Brazil and is also where it maintains a large part of its logistics centers, in addition to its headquarters in Osasco. This commitment goes beyond financial investment, focusing on the development of the communities where they operate and supporting entrepreneurship by investing in education and professionalization, concludes the Senior Vice President and Leader of Mercado Livre in Brazil.
The Secretary of Economic Development of the state of São Paulo, Patricia Ellen, stated that this is the largest announcement made in this administration, regarding investments by a company in just one year, honoring the commitment to generate job opportunities and income for the population, supporting investors through a deregulated model, but mainly supporting entrepreneurs and workers with professional qualification and microcredit.
