Even With the Same Price as the BYD Dolphin Mini, the Caoa Chery iCar Faces Steep Drop in Sales and Has Not Registered New Registrations Since February 2025
The Caoa Chery iCar, a 100% electric subcompact and direct rival of the BYD Dolphin Mini, is experiencing a significant downturn in the Brazilian automotive market. According to data from Fenabrave, only two units were registered in 2025 — one in January and another in February. Since March, the model has not recorded new sales, indicating a weakening demand.
Despite the modest performance, the vehicle is still offered on the official brand’s website for R$ 119,990, exactly the same price as the Dolphin Mini.
The BYD model, however, remains the leader among the best-selling electric cars in the country this year.

History of Brand Fluctuations
The automaker has faced other phases of sales fluctuations. The hybrid sedan Arrizo 6, for example, recorded only 25 units sold between January and July 2024.
Between August and November of that year, the model went four months without new registrations.
In December, the scenario changed, with 31 units sold. By 2025, the Arrizo 6 accumulated 1,116 vehicles sold by July, showing a significant recovery after the downturn.
Focus on Electrification and Compact Design
Caoa Chery emphasizes that the iCar was the first super-compact 100% electric model launched in Brazil in 2022, marking the beginning of its electrification and innovation strategy.
At just 3.20 meters long, the iCar is one of the smallest electric vehicles in the country.
The motor delivers 61 hp and 15.3 kgfm of torque, powered by a 30.4 kWh battery, capable of ensuring up to 282 kilometers of autonomy.
