With Launch Scheduled for 2026, Lada Azimut Promises Comfort, Technology, and Gasoline Engines — But Future in Brazil Is Still Uncertain

Lada is back in the market. The Russian brand, known in Brazil for the Niva in the 1990s, considered by many to be “the ugliest car in the world,” has just introduced the Lada Azimut, its first SUV. The announcement was made during the International Forum in Saint Petersburg.

The new utility vehicle is considered the “spiritual successor” to the old Niva, but it features a completely different look. Forget the square and simplistic style of the past. The Lada Azimut boasts straight and harmonious lines, a modern optical set, renewed wheels, and balanced proportions.

Interior Focused on Comfort and Technology

Upon entering the Azimut, the driver finds a dashboard with a dual-screen setup, a 10-inch multimedia center, integrated GPS, and voice commands. The interior finishing is sophisticated, far from the rustic look of the old Niva.

In addition, the vehicle features six speakers, dual-zone digital air conditioning, and a rear camera. The brand has invested in a modern interior filled with features that usually appear only in more expensive models.

Traditional Engines Without Electrification

Despite the revamped look and technological cabin, the Azimut maintains the tradition with its engines. The Russian manufacturer opted for versions exclusively gasoline-powered, with no level of electrification for now.

There will be three engine options: a 1.6 naturally aspirated with 120 hp, a 1.8 naturally aspirated with 132 hp, and, in the future, a 1.5 turbo version with 150 hp. The transmission also varies according to the version: a six-speed manual for the base model, CVT for the mid-range, and conventional automatic for the turbo version.

Launch in 2026 with Estimated Price

The Lada Azimut is set to begin production in 2026, at the factory in Togliatti, Russia. Local media already estimates the initial price at around 2.5 million rubles, which is approximately R$ 175,000, excluding taxes or import fees.

There is still no official confirmation on which countries the Russian manufacturer’s SUV will be sold in. So far, it is only known that the launch will first take place in the Russian market. The possibility of the model reaching Brazil remains undefined.
