The Geely EX2 Pro arrived as a compact electric car priced from R$ 123,000 to R$ 136,000, with 375 liters of trunk space, 70 liters in the front, charging from 30% to 80% in about 18 minutes, and a proposal to compete with the BYD Dolphin Mini, BYD Dolphin, and other Brazilian urban compacts.

The Geely EX2 Pro arrived in Brazil targeting a delicate space in the compact electric market: for those who wanted a BYD Dolphin Mini but missed more space, a larger trunk, and superior performance. Priced between R$ 123,000 and R$ 136,000, the model positions itself below the BYD Dolphin.

The arrival of the Chinese electric car stirred the segment because the brand accumulated 12,000 orders, delivered 8,518 units by the mentioned period, and saw the model register 3,078 units in April, a record for Geely. The result shows that the competition among Chinese compact electrics is far from just a price battle.

Chinese electric arrives priced between Dolphin Mini and Dolphin

The Geely EX2 Pro appears in an intermediate range. It is more expensive than the BYD Dolphin Mini in some configurations but falls below the traditional BYD Dolphin, which is mentioned with versions starting at R$ 149,000. This position helps explain why the car became a natural comparison point for those researching compact electrics.

The logic is simple: the buyer looks at the Dolphin Mini for the price but may miss the space. At the same time, they look at the traditional Dolphin but find a higher price. The Geely EX2 Pro tries to occupy precisely this gap, offering larger size and more competitive pricing than the Dolphin.

According to the data mentioned in the material, the model was launched with prices close to R$ 119,000 to R$ 135,100, but later it was mentioned in the range between R$ 123,000 and R$ 136,000. The increase is attributed to the supply and demand movement, as the initial demand exceeded expectations.

This behavior shows how the Brazilian compact electric market is changing. Previously concentrated in a few names, the category now receives Chinese models that compete on price, range, interior space, technology, and cost-benefit.

375-liter trunk becomes an argument against the Dolphin Mini

One of the strongest points of the Geely EX2 Pro is the trunk. The model has a 375-liter capacity in the rear, a volume well above that cited for the BYD Dolphin Mini and also superior to that mentioned for the BYD Dolphin. For those who use the car daily, this number changes the perception of utility.

The trunk is especially relevant for families, app drivers, taxi drivers, and consumers who need to carry luggage frequently. In a compact electric, having 375 liters can be the difference between a purely urban car and a more versatile vehicle.

Besides the rear compartment, the Geely EX2 Pro also offers 70 liters in the front compartment, called “frunk” in the video. This extra space increases the total capacity for luggage, backpacks, small objects, and items the driver does not want to leave inside the cabin.

This combination creates a strong argument against smaller electrics. The Dolphin Mini may be cheaper, but the EX2 Pro tries to compensate with space. For those considering the Mini but needing more trunk space, the Geely emerges as a more practical alternative.

Rear-wheel drive and own platform differentiate the compact

The Geely EX2 Pro uses rear-wheel drive, a characteristic still uncommon among entry-level urban compacts. In practice, this frees the front wheels from the function of driving the car and can improve the steering angle, something useful in city maneuvers.

The material cites 40 degrees of steering, above the value mentioned for the BYD Dolphin. This can make the Geely EX2 Pro more pleasant in tight parking spaces, short turns, and parking maneuvers. For an urban car, turning well can be as important as accelerating hard.

The model is also described with independent suspension at the front and rear, with multilink on the rear axle. This setup draws attention because, in theory, it could deliver more comfort and control. However, the evaluation presented in the material points out that the car is comfortable but could be firmer in more intense driving.

In other words, rear-wheel drive helps in the technical proposal but does not transform the EX2 Pro into a sporty compact. The more balanced reading is that it seeks to be efficient, comfortable, and easy to use, with a different architecture than found in some direct competitors.

Charging from 30% to 80% in about 18 minutes

Another factor that favors the Geely EX2 Pro is the fast charging. The model accepts direct current charging of 70 kW, while the material cites 40 kW in the BYD Dolphin Mini and 60 kW in the BYD Dolphin. This gives Geely an advantage in quick stops.

The brand reports charging from 30% to 80% in approximately 18 minutes. This time is important because it reduces waiting at fast chargers, especially on short trips or routes where the driver needs to top up the battery before continuing.

In slow charging, the model operates with 6.6 kW, a value similar to that cited for competitors. The battery has 39.4 kWh, close to the package used by the Dolphin Mini and smaller than some versions of the Dolphin. Even so, energy efficiency appears as a positive point.

The mentioned range is 289 km according to Inmetro, while the usage measurement cited in the material suggests a possibility of about 347 km in specific real conditions. As always with electric vehicles, autonomy depends on speed, terrain, air conditioning use, temperature, and driving style.

Size places the EX2 Pro closer to the Dolphin than to the Mini

The Geely EX2 Pro is 4.14 meters long, slightly above the BYD Dolphin mentioned in the material. The wheelbase is 2.65 meters, while the Dolphin is mentioned with 2.70 meters. The Dolphin Mini appears smaller, with 3.78 meters in length and 2.50 meters of wheelbase.

These measurements help explain why the EX2 Pro does not compete solely on price. It tries to deliver dimensions close to a larger compact, but with a price closer to the Dolphin Mini in some versions. This crossing of price and size makes the car interesting for the Brazilian consumer.

Width also affects the perception of space. The Geely is cited with 1.80 meters in width, above the Dolphin Mini and also slightly larger than the Dolphin. In practice, this can favor the sensation of a more robust car and improve lateral comfort.

At the same time, the material points out that the driving position could be better, especially due to the lack of depth adjustment of the steering wheel and the feeling of a more enclosed cockpit. This shows that external size does not solve all ergonomic issues.

Performance surpasses Dolphin Mini and targets urban use

The Geely EX2 Pro is cited with 116 hp, a power superior to the 75 hp of the Dolphin Mini and the 95 hp of the Dolphin GS mentioned in the material. The torque is 16.4 kgfm, below the Dolphin, but above the Dolphin Mini.

In acceleration, the car reportedly did 0 to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds in the cited test. For a compact urban electric vehicle, the number is sufficient for daily use and reinforces the idea that the model does not rely solely on price to compete.

The maximum speed reported is 140 km/h, positioned between the Dolphin Mini, cited with 130 km/h, and the Dolphin GS, mentioned with 160 km/h. The combination reinforces Geely’s intermediate proposal: stronger than the Mini, but not trying to be the top of the category.

In the city, the biggest attraction is the immediate response of the electric motor. The model is described as pleasant in starts and urban movements, especially on routes of 40 to 50 km per day, a scenario in which a compact electric usually makes more sense.

Pro version loses Max’s equipment but keeps important points

The Pro version is the entry-level configuration of the Geely EX2 in Brazil. It retains LED headlights, a large multimedia screen, leather-covered seats, six airbags, stability control, auto hold, driving modes, and good perceived quality in parts of the finish.

On the other hand, the material points out important absences compared to the Max version. The EX2 Pro does not have an induction cell phone charger, a sound system with six speakers, 540° camera, lane departure warning, smart headlight, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and remote activation via app.

These differences are relevant because they show where the brand reduced costs to position the entry-level version. The Geely EX2 Pro delivers space, performance, and strong recharging, but gives up part of the driver assistance package.

Another criticized point is the use of hubcaps in a car above R$ 120 thousand. The choice may bother consumers who expect alloy wheels in this price range. Even so, the overall package remains competitive due to the combination of size, battery, trunk, and price.

Warranty and network enter the comparison with BYD

The warranty of the Geely EX2 Pro is cited as 6 years or 150 thousand km for the vehicle and 8 years or 150 thousand km for the battery. The comparison with BYD comes in because the rival has a larger network and updated warranty with different limits, depending on private or commercial use.

For regular buyers, this difference may weigh less. But for app drivers, taxi drivers, and those who drive a lot, warranty, dealership network, and parts availability can greatly influence the decision. In electrics, the purchase involves not just price: it involves support after the sale.

The material also reports a wait of 90, 100, or even 120 days for some buyers, a sign that the initial demand pressured delivery. This may have limited registrations and even led some consumers to consider available competitors earlier.

Even so, the volume of orders shows strength. With 12 thousand orders and more than 8.5 thousand units delivered in the mentioned period, the EX2 Pro helped increase attention on compact Chinese electrics in Brazil.

The impact did not topple BYD, but increased interest in electrics

YouTube video

The natural expectation was that the arrival of the Geely EX2 Pro would directly affect the BYD Dolphin and the Dolphin Mini. However, the material points out that BYD’s competitors also grew in average sales in the first months of the year.

The Dolphin would have increased its monthly average from 1,268 to 1,893 units, while the Dolphin Mini would have gone from 2,708 to 5,414 monthly units, in the mentioned comparison. This suggests that the arrival of new Chinese models does not necessarily take buyers away, but rather increases interest in the category.

Instead of a simple dispute, what appears is a collective movement. More options lead more consumers to research compact electric cars, compare range, price, space, and equipment, and consider a technology that previously seemed distant.

In this scenario, the Geely EX2 Pro doesn’t need to destroy its rivals to be relevant. It just needs to force comparison, increase the pressure for cost-benefit, and show that the segment is becoming more competitive.

A compact electric that influences the choice of those who wanted more space

The Geely EX2 Pro arrives in Brazil with a clear proposal: to deliver more space than the Dolphin Mini, a lower price than the Dolphin in some comparisons, and a technical package that includes rear-wheel drive, fast charging, a large trunk, and good urban performance.

It is not perfect. The Pro version loses important assistances, uses hubcaps, does not have a rear wiper, and may raise doubts for those who value network, warranty, and more refined finish. Still, its numbers explain why the car attracted so many orders.

The central point is that the EX2 Pro changed the benchmark for comparison. Now, those looking for a compact electric need to consider not only price and range but also space, charging, trunk, warranty, availability, and safety equipment.

And you, do you think the Geely EX2 Pro has the strength to convince those who wanted a BYD Dolphin Mini with more space, or does BYD’s larger network still weigh more in the purchase decision? Share your opinion.
