Owner of a Tesla Model S bought for $140,490 in 2022 tried to sell the electric car two years later and was surprised by an appraisal of only $46,400, a 67% drop in the original value.
The Tesla Model S bought by Kyle Conner for $140,490 in 2022 was appraised at $46,400 two years later, a $94,000 drop that surprised the owner when trying to sell.
Conner, host of the channel Out of Spec Reviews, had experience with electric cars, including the Long Range Model 3 and Zeekr 001 FR. Even so, the appraisal drew attention due to the depreciation.
Appraisal of the Tesla Model S came from Tesla
The drop corresponds to 67% of the amount paid for the car. TikToker Chris Pearce commented on the case by displaying an image of Tesla’s inspection invoice, where the attributed value appeared.

The YouTuber Mark McCann bought a Bugatti Veyron for almost $1.2 million, but discovered that the supercar’s gearbox is so damaged that even Bugatti itself won’t accept to repair it, and the repair could cost a fortune.
Pearce noted that Conner could have gotten a better price in a private sale. He also stated that the appraisal came directly from Tesla and could represent a low offer.
Even so, according to Pearce, sites like Edmunds or Consumer Reports would not point to more than $59,000. Conner himself shared the image with just the word “depreciation.”
Owner’s reaction gained repercussion
In response to a follower, Conner said that his car “feels like it’s falling apart.” Later, he expressed discomfort with the traction the publication about the Tesla Model S gained.
He compared the repercussion to a positive review of the new Long Range RWD Model 3, which, according to him, almost no one shared. For Conner, there was “enormous Tesla hate bias in the media.”
Depreciation affects other electric cars
The case adds to reports from other electric vehicle owners. British YouTuber The MacMaster also spoke about the depreciation of his Porsche Taycan, even calling it “worthless” and “scrap value.”
The material points out that electric car technology advances rapidly, making recent models less valued. Tatiana Boohoff stated that older electric cars reflect a market in technological adaptation, with value linked to industry advancement.
