According to the municipal administration, these locations were chosen based on accident studies and the need for pedestrian protection.
As Mayor Jeferson Brun (REPUBLICANOS) stated, the initial analysis may lead to future adjustments: “If necessary, we will change the installation points or expand the system.”
Furthermore, the speed limit in some of these areas may be revised after the testing phase, depending on driver behavior and the assessment of the impact on local traffic.

Data from the State Department of Transit of São Paulo (Detran-SP) reinforces the importance of the initiative.
Between January and October 2024, nine deaths caused by accidents were recorded on the municipal streets of Itapetininga, representing 21% of the city’s traffic fatalities.
Another 34 occurred on highways, pointing to the need for specific actions to protect both drivers and pedestrians.
In addition to fatalities, the number of non-fatal accidents is also concerning. These incidents often result in severe injuries, high medical costs, and emotional impacts on the families involved.
The expectation is that reducing speed in critical areas will help minimize these cases.
