The New Partnership Between Petrobras and Halliburton Is Celebrated as a Great Technological Achievement Among Oil Well Companies
The American oilfield services company Halliburton installed a subsea hydraulic wet connection in deep water for the Brazilian oil company Petrobras, which is seen as “a significant achievement” in subsea electric completion technology.
Upon announcing this well installation, Halliburton described it as “the first subsea hydraulic wet connection in the deep water sector” and highlighted that the subsea Fuzion EH hydraulic connector helps increase well recovery factors while maintaining the integrity of the SmartWell completion systems throughout the well’s life cycle.
Mark Dawson, Vice President of Halliburton Completion Technology, commented: “The Fuzion-EH connector is the first step in the fully electric intelligent completion journey and is a collaborative development product with Petrobras and Shell. This achievement paves the way for us to offer customers the autonomous capability to control and manage reservoirs in their wells and assets.”

90 billion barrels of oil, 1.669 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, and 84% of probable reserves in offshore areas are under the Arctic, and the melting ice that opens maritime routes and exposes this energy treasure is turning the North Pole into a strategic dispute between the USA, Russia, China, and Canada for oil, gas, navigation, and military power.

Petrobras’ Subsea Connection Aims to Prevent Possible Damage
Furthermore, the Fuzion-EH connector is expected to help facilitate safer and simpler intervention operations and prevent potential damage to the formation due to workover operations. The oilfield giant plans a future version of a dual shooting Fuzion-EH connector for qualification and implementation by Petrobras in 2023.
This system provides “additional benefits” in the SmartWell system installations while “maintaining the benefits of the single shooting system,” outlined Halliburton.
Olivier Wambersie, General Manager of Technology for Brazil, Shell, commented: “This significant well technology development marks the first single trip, multiple zones, open hole completion. It was a remarkable example of teamwork, partnership, and technical collaboration among the operators and Halliburton within the Brazilian ecosystem. The first application of this technology was made possible through ANP Levy.”
Halliburton: A Pioneer in Well Technology
Halliburton has been a pioneer in the development and deployment of SmartWell system technology for 25 years, installing nearly 1,400 SmartWell systems globally and more than 100 in Brazil, providing its clients with control over 3,000 zonal intervals.
Regarding Halliburton’s recent activities, it is worth noting that the U.S. player is one of the companies that signed corporate purchase agreements (CPAs) with Aramco earlier this month.
