Ram has officially confirmed the arrival of its new midsize pickup to the South American market. Named Dakota, the new model will be produced in Argentina and will arrive in Brazil in early 2026, reviving a name with tradition in the segment, but with a completely updated proposal. The model is based on the same platform that gave rise to the Fiat Titano, in partnership with Chinese Changan, but bets on exclusive design and the robust visual identity characteristic of Ram.

As a result of an investment of US$ 385 million in the KP2 project, the Dakota shares the mechanical and structural base of the Titano, but differs in appearance and positioning. The front end showcases the traditional DNA of the American brand, with an imposing grille and aggressive headlights, as well as redesigned taillights and cargo bed cover. The strategy is clear: to offer a pickup that positions itself as a competitive alternative against already established rivals, such as Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Chevrolet S10.

Modern Engine And Robust Performance

The heart of the Dakota will be the already known 2.2 L Multijet II turbodiesel engine, produced by Stellantis. This engine delivers 200 horsepower and 45.9 kgfm of torque, coupled with the 8-speed automatic transmission (ZF 8HP50) and the 4×4 all-wheel drive system with low range and automatic mode.

Developed with high-pressure common-rail injection technology, the Multijet II offers up to eight injections per cycle, ensuring more efficient fuel combustion, lower emissions, and smooth operation. The result is a robust and reliable engine that balances strength for heavy work with efficiency for daily use.

Fuel Consumption: What To Expect

There are currently no official data from Ram regarding the Dakota, but since the setup is the same as the Fiat Titano, it is already possible to project very close figures. According to homologated data:

  • Urban Consumption: between 9.9 and 10.1 l/100 km (approx. 10 km/l)
  • Highway Consumption: between 9.2 and 10.8 l/100 km (up to 11 km/l)

These figures position the pickup in line with the main competitors in the category. Meanwhile, the Ram Rampage, which uses the same engine, has already demonstrated greater efficiency in Brazil, achieving up to 13.3 km/l on the highway (7.5 l/100 km), which shows the potential of the Multijet II when combined with optimized calibration and aerodynamic improvements.

Production And Market Arrival

The manufacturing of the Dakota will take place at the plant in Córdoba, Argentina, the same facility where the Fiat Titano is already produced. This strategy reinforces the importance of the unit for Stellantis in South America, which today supplies different markets with the base of the Changan Hunter, also used by Peugeot Landtrek and the Ram 1200 in some countries.

The launch is scheduled for December 2025 in Argentina, arriving in Brazil in the first quarter of 2026. Still in the conceptual phase, the model already reveals much of what the final version will be, leaving only the confirmation of how its interior will be — whether it will feature exclusive Ram finishes or follow the more modern style of the Changan Hunter, with digital screens and a sophisticated look.

Tradition With Renewed Vigor

By bringing back the name Dakota, Ram is also betting on historical appeal. In the 1990s and 2000s, the Dodge Dakota was produced in Brazil and gained good acceptance. Now, in a much more competitive market, the new generation seeks to unite tradition and modernity, delivering mechanical robustness, technology, and fuel consumption within what is expected for the category.
