The Solar Power Plant in the City of Barreiras, in the State of Bahia, Will Have an Installed Production Capacity of 410 Thousand MWh/Year
In the last week, the company Solar Newen Bahia Energia signed a letter of intent with the Secretary of Economic Development (SDE) for the construction of a new photovoltaic power plant aimed at solar energy generation in the municipality of Barreiras. To execute the project, the company estimates to invest R$ 1.080 billion. The venture will hire 990 workers for its construction and generate 135 jobs during the operation phase. Creation of New Jobs in the State with the Construction of the Solar Power Plant
The Secretary of Economic Development, Nelson Leal, stated that in July of this year, the Electric Energy Trading Chamber reported that Bahia ranked second among the states generating solar energy in the country. And this protocol they signed is an indication that the sector is only expected to grow in the state, he concluded.
According to the BahideValor website, solar energy generation ventures in Bahia have already created 13,000 direct jobs during the construction phase of those already in operation, and the SDE estimates that another 47,400 direct jobs will be created in the construction phase for parks that are under construction or will still be initiated.

Throughout the production chain, 30 jobs are promoted per MW, with 43% being direct jobs during the parks’ construction phase. Currently, the state of Bahia has 34 photovoltaic parks in operation, with over three million modules functioning and an installed capacity of over 1,000 MW.

In the city of Oliveira dos Brejinhos, in Bahia, the installation of the Complexo Sol do Sertão, which will consist of 8 solar power plants, promises to generate around 4,000 direct and indirect jobs throughout its construction. The solar power plant will have a capacity of 474 MWp and will feature over one million solar panels.
According to Gilberto Peixoto, the director of deployment at Essentia Energia, the plant with 1,075,200 solar panels is expected to go into operation by the second half of this year, that is, from July to December 2021. He claims that the solar plant will be a significant incentive and boost for Bahia, especially in generating new job opportunities.
A unique characteristic of the project that promises to generate over 4,000 new jobs is the thermal sensation of the location where the 8 solar plants will be installed, which can reach temperatures exceeding 40°C.
According to clarification from Ricardo Alonso, the Engineering Director at Sungrow, the inverters supplied by the company for the solar panel complex in Bahia can produce the same energy at elevated temperatures, due to their cooling technology. He stated that the inverters can operate in high-temperature conditions without losing performance, producing the same energy at high temperatures, such as 45°C.
