During a trip to Norway, Leon Aguiar, the general director of Idema, was part of the official delegation from the State of RN, which included the State Secretary of Economic Development, Jaime Calado, and the president of Caern, Roberto Linhares, to participate in meetings with companies in the renewable energy sector. During the meeting, the directors of Scatec, Roah Haugland, Sustainable Business Manager, and Alex Holmerberg, Project Manager, presented the specifications of their investment in a new solar plant that promises to generate jobs and income for the state.

Solar Power Plant Will Have An Installed Capacity Of 532 MW
The company, which already has operations in Brazilian territory, will install the UFV Mendubim solar plant. The relation to RN is that the solar power plant will be installed in the city of Assú and will have an installed capacity of 532 MW.
The project will be one of the largest ever built by Scatec, which will produce more than 60% of the energy to supply the needs of the aluminum industry in the state of Maranhão. With construction expected to begin in March of next year, and activities planned for July 2023, the investment in the solar plant is approximately R$ 1.6 billion, and the expectation is that, only during the construction phase, more than 1,200 direct and indirect jobs will be generated.

The Scatec project is expected to generate various jobs upfront. The environmental licensing with Idema has already been requested. According to Leon Aguiar, the company understands the importance of investments and will technically assess all the demands of the solar plant, complying with the licensing rules, and what environmental legislation advises for possible environmental licenses and authorizations for the solar energy project in RN.
Scatec Could Build The Largest Solar Energy Project In Brazil
According to Senator Jean Paul Prates, RN has the fundamental elements to stay ahead in renewable energies. The senator emphasized that this is a project that has everything to become one of the largest in solar energy in Brazil, and also stated that receiving the invitation from Odd Magne Ru, Norway’s ambassador to Brazil, to see government structures and projects was considered extremely important for the advancement of RN’s and the country’s productive chain.
Jaime Calado, State Secretary for Economic Development, reinforced that the mission is to attract investments and showcase RN’s potentials, especially in solar energy production. Jaime stated that with the new solar plant, one can observe the serious work of Governor Fátima Bezerra.
