Shipbuilding Industry Reborn in Brazilian State Bringing 1,200 New Jobs to the Region. Partnership Between Government and Private Sector Ensures Employment and Professional Training.
After years of inactivity, the shipbuilding industry in Bahia gains new momentum with the reactivation of the Enseada Shipyard, located in São Roque do Paraguaçu, a district of Maragogipe.
According to information from the Naval Porto Estaleiro portal, the return of activities is expected to create around 1,200 jobs, with 300 direct and 900 indirect positions, boosting the local economy and strengthening the industrial sector in the state.
This restructuring marks a new phase for the Brazilian naval sector, which seeks to regain its relevance on the international stage.

Strategic Partnership for Training and Development
The resumption of the shipyard’s activities is the result of a partnership between the Government of Bahia, through the Secretary of Labor, Employment, Income and Sport (Setre), and the Enseada-Tenenge Consortium, responsible for managing the shipyard.
The initiative primarily focuses on training the local workforce, ensuring that workers from the region are prioritized to fill the available positions.
On Monday (10), the Technical Cooperation Agreement 016/2024 was formally signed by Setre Secretary Augusto Vasconcelos and the consortium representative, Mário Arthur Borges de Assis Moura.
The agreement includes the professional training of workers and the mediation of hiring employees through the SineBahia network.
Production and Economic Impact
With the reactivation of the shipyard, the construction of up to 80 mineral barges, which require highly specialized labor, will resume.
This level of production not only generates jobs but also strengthens the local economy, encouraging the growth of suppliers and service providers linked to shipbuilding.
According to Augusto Vasconcelos, this initiative represents a milestone for the industrial sector in Bahia and a significant step toward Brazil’s economic sovereignty.
“The shipbuilding industry is back in Bahia. We have signed a technical cooperation agreement with the company responsible for the Enseada Shipyard, which will generate new job opportunities in the region. Our governor Jerônimo Rodrigues, along with President Lula, is committed to resuming shipbuilding in Brazil, strengthening the national industry,” said Vasconcelos.
Differentials of the Enseada Shipyard
Located in a strategic location along the banks of the Paraguaçu River, the Enseada Shipyard is the only 5th generation shipyard in Brazil, featuring a modern infrastructure that serves both the national and international markets.
The site was designed to operate with high efficiency, reducing costs and production time, making it a key piece in the revival of the Brazilian shipbuilding industry.
With an area of 1.6 million square meters, the shipyard provides ideal conditions for naval production, without berthing competition from other industries and free from climatic interferences such as currents and unexpected winds.
These factors ensure greater safety and efficiency in operations.
Additionally, its modern structure allows for the execution of innovative and sustainable projects.
Expansion of the Shipbuilding Sector and Future Perspectives
The return of operations at the Enseada Shipyard aligns with the national strategy for the recovery of the shipbuilding industry.
With incentives from federal and state governments, the expectation is that new contracts will be established to further increase production.
The resumption of this sector also strengthens professional training, creating new opportunities for young people and experienced workers.
Experts highlight that the revival of the naval sector could represent an increase in Brazil’s competitiveness in the international market.
The modernization of facilities and the adoption of new technologies will allow the country to once again become a relevant hub for vessel manufacturing.
How to Apply for Job Openings
Workers interested in participating in the selection process for the positions generated by the Enseada Shipyard should follow the information announced by the SineBahia, which will be responsible for mediating the hiring.
Professional qualification courses will also be announced soon, along with the requirements for applying for the openings.
