According to the ANP, the average price of ethanol fell 27.86% in the week, settling at R$ 3.340 per liter of fuel

The average prices of hydrated ethanol fell in 22 states and the Federal District and rose in 3 states, remaining stable only in one state, Amapá, this week, according to a survey conducted by the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels) compiled by AE-Taxas.

In the gas stations surveyed by the ANP across Brazil, the average price of ethanol fuel fell by 4.85% in the week compared to the previous one, dropping from R$ 3.710 to R$ 3.530 per liter.

In the state of São Paulo, the main producing and consuming state with the most gas stations evaluated by the ANP, the average price of ethanol fell 27.86% in the week, remaining at R$ 3.340 per liter of fuel. Additionally, São Paulo was the state with the largest percentage drop in prices over the week. In contrast, Sergipe was the state that experienced the largest price increase for ethanol fuel during the week, by 28.1%, from R$ 3.510 to R$ 4.500 per liter, according to the ANP.

The minimum price of ethanol recorded during the week was R$ 2.74 per liter in São Paulo, and the lowest average price in the state, of R$ 3.12, was recorded in Mato Grosso. The maximum price, at R$ 6.99 per liter, was noted by the ANP at a gas station in Rio Grande do Sul. The highest state average price, at R$ 5.35, was also observed in Amapá by the ANP.

In the monthly comparison, according to the ANP, the average price of the biofuel in Brazil fell by 14.53%. The state with the largest decline during the period was São Paulo, with a 32.66% monthly depreciation of ethanol, falling to R$ 3.340, data from the ANP.

Volkswagen Wants Its Customers to Fuel Only with Ethanol: Fuel Will Be Part of an Initiative to Reduce Carbon in the Atmosphere

Volkswagen do Brasil aims to have its customers fuel their cars exclusively with ethanol. This is because Volkswagen has taken another step in its strategy to reduce carbon in the atmosphere. This time, the company has partnered with five companies and established the Responsible Fueling Program, which provides benefits to those who join.

To achieve its goal, Volkswagen cars equipped with the new VW Play app will now have access to carbon emission data on the customer’s phone each time they refuel with ethanol, as well as the price per km driven.

The app developed by Volkswagen will also show the reduction in CO2 emissions and even the equivalent in trees, which help reduce carbon in the atmosphere. For instance, with the Volkswagen T-Cross 200 TSI, a customer who fuels their car 100% with ethanol will emit 56 g/km of CO2 over a distance of 400 km.

Pablo Di Si, CEO of Volkswagen, acknowledges that ethanol fuel does not completely eliminate CO2 emissions, but he believes this initiative is the best alternative for countries like Brazil, India, Indonesia, and Africa.

The issue is also financial; 100% electric cars will still take time to become cheaper than internal combustion engine cars. However, a deficit that has arisen in Brazil is that ethanol fuel has become extremely expensive compared to gasoline due to the electoral PEC, instituted to benefit President Jair Bolsonaro in the elections. Currently, it is not advantageous to fuel with ethanol, given that gasoline has become cheaper.
