New INSS Ceiling Has Been Effective Since January 1, 2026, Raising the Social Security Limit to R$ 8,475.55, with Deposits Until February 6 for Those Earning Above the Minimum, While 2025 Grants Have a Smaller Proportional Adjustment According to the Month the Benefit Started.

The new INSS ceiling came into effect in 2026 and started to reflect, practically, on the payment statement of retirees and pensioners earning above the minimum wage. This week, part of the beneficiaries began to see adjusted amounts that can reach R$ 8,475.55, the maximum limit of Social Security for the year.

However, the change does not mean a uniform increase for everyone. The new INSS ceiling benefits a smaller group, composed of those who contributed based on higher salaries and for a longer time, while most receive more modest corrections, especially those whose benefits were granted throughout 2025 and therefore received a proportional adjustment.

What Is the New INSS Ceiling and Why Does It Change the Maximum Value

The new INSS ceiling is the maximum payment limit for Social Security benefits for the year.

In 2026, this ceiling increased from R$ 8,157.41 to R$ 8,475.55, an update associated with the annual adjustment applied to the system.

This increase was defined by the Interministerial Ordinance MPS/MF No. 13, with a correction of 3.90%, based on the variation of the INPC for 2025.

In practice, the ceiling acts as a “limit”: even if the calculation of a retirement or pension suggests a higher amount, the payment cannot exceed the current limit.

Who Can Receive Up to R$ 8,4 Thousand and Why It’s Not for Everyone

The amount close to R$ 8,4 thousand is not a credit available to all insured individuals.

It applies to a specific group that, throughout their professional lives, contributed based on higher salaries and accumulated time and conditions that led to the final calculation of the retirement, pension, or sickness assistance nearing the ceiling.

This explains why the new INSS ceiling tends to appear for a smaller segment of the public, even when the ceiling is widely publicized.

The ceiling is a limit, not a guarantee, and it can only be reached when the contribution history supports a benefit at the maximum permitted level.

Adjustment of 3.90% and the Effect of Proportional Adjustment in 2025

For those who already received benefits above a minimum wage and had a full adjustment, the annual correction follows the 2025 reference used by the INPC, resulting in a percentage of 3.90%.

This is the mechanism that pushes the ceiling up and updates part of the existing benefits.

In contrast, those whose benefits were granted throughout 2025 enter another logic: the adjustment is proportional to the time the benefit was active during the year.

An example cited is someone who started receiving in May 2025, who had a smaller adjustment of around 1.38%, as they did not accumulate the entire inflation of the previous year.

This is where most feel much smaller increases, even with the new INSS ceiling in the spotlight.

Calendar Until February 6 and the Rule of the Last Digit of the Benefit

The credits follow a calendar released by the INSS at the end of 2025 and use the last digit of the benefit card number, disregarding the check digit after the dash.

In 2026, those earning up to a minimum wage started receiving on January 26 and will continue until February 6.

For those earning above the minimum, including those nearing the ceiling, payments began on February 2 and also end on February 6.

The distribution by benefit end digit is as follows, within the group above a minimum wage:

Finals 1 and 6: February 2
Finals 2 and 7: February 3
Finals 3 and 8: February 4
Finals 4 and 9: February 5
Finals 5 and 0: February 6

How to Check the Exact Value on Meu INSS and Avoid Confusion About the First Credit of the Year

The most direct way to confirm if the adjustment has been applied and what the credited amount will be is by checking the Meu INSS, on the website or app.

The recommended path is to access the “payment statement” option, where the amount, date, and any variations of the benefit appear.

For those who do not use the internet, the consultation can also be made by phone 135, which operates from Monday to Saturday, from 7 AM to 10 PM.

The guidance is to follow the calendar and check the statement, as this is the first payment of 2026 with the new INSS ceiling already in effect, which tends to create confusion among those expecting equal increases for all.

The new INSS ceiling reorganizes the top of the table and may lead the maximum payment to R$ 8,475.55, but the real effect depends on the contribution history and the type of adjustment applied.

For a smaller segment, the ceiling appears as an effective value; for many, what arrives is a proportional increase or a correction limited to the concession period, especially in benefits started in 2025.

In your family or circle, has anyone checked the statement and noticed a difference between those earning above the minimum and those who entered the proportional adjustment? Do you think that the calendar by benefit end helps or hinders understanding the new INSS ceiling and the amount that hits the account?
