Toyota, aiming to compete directly with models like the Caoa Chery Tiggo 8 and the Jeep Commander, plans to launch the new 7-seater Corolla Cross in the Brazilian market, a vehicle that has already made its debut in the Indian market.
Meet The New 7-Seater Corolla Cross
Focusing on competing with the Caoa Chery Tiggo 8 and Jeep Commander, Toyota seems to have its sights set on the 7-seater SUV segment. It appears that the Japanese automaker is preparing to launch a larger version of the Corolla Cross in India, which could arrive in Brazil.
The information comes from Autocar India and Quatro Rodas magazine. Among the updates, the new 7-seater Corolla Cross is expected to feature a wheelbase of 2.64 m, expanded by 15 cm. Another change is expected to be the multilink suspension system at the rear. On its exterior, the new version competing with Caoa Chery Tiggo 8 and Jeep Commander is expected to have a light facelift while retaining much of the current SUV’s lines.

Inside, the finish is expected to be similar to the 5-seater Toyota Corolla Cross. The main difference lies in the extra row of seats, along with the updates debuted in the Corolla sedan, such as the digital instrument panel and a new multimedia center. With project code 340D, the new model is expected to launch in the middle of next year in the Indian market.
New 7-Seater Corolla Cross Will Retain National Market Powertrain
According to Indian media, the new 7-seater Corolla Cross will also be sold in other countries, including Brazil. In the country, it would compete with models like the Caoa Chery Tiggo 8 and Jeep Commander. The so-called project 340D is in development in India, where the Japanese automaker has just expanded its factory capacity from 400,000 to 500,000 units. This surplus will be directed towards the production of the new model.
Here, Toyota has been testing the plug-in hybrid system, which is an evolution of the setup currently used in the sedan and SUV variants of the Corolla. The final result will be produced domestically, with a flex engine and another, of course, electric. Under the hood, the expectation is also that the new 7-seater Corolla Cross will retain the engine options of the national model.
Among them is the 2.0 flex engine with 177 horsepower and 209 Nm of torque, and the 1.8 hybrid with 122 horsepower and 163 Nm, both with a CVT automatic transmission. It is known that national plug-in hybrids will debut, at most, in 5 years. The beneficiaries of this technology are precisely the Yaris and the Corolla family, which may grow not only with the 7-seater utility but also possibly as an intermediate pickup.
