More Than A Thousand Gas Cylinders Were Seized In An Illegal Depot In Camaçari, Bahia. Operation Reveals Risks, Irregularities, And Impacts On Consumer Pockets.
More than a thousand gas cylinders were seized during a police action that revealed an alarming scenario in the Metropolitan Region of Salvador. The inspection took place on Wednesday (21), in the municipality of Camaçari, and brought to light a scheme of illegal storage of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
Although the location operated discreetly, the number of cylinders found caught the attention of the authorities. Furthermore, the risks to the population were real. The depot had no authorization to operate, which increases the danger of leaks, fires, and even explosions.
At the same time, the seizure raises questions about the impact of this type of practice on the final price paid by consumers.

Joint Inspection Flags Irregular Depot In Urban Area
The operation was carried out by the Civil Police of Bahia, through the Consumer Defense Delegation (Decon), in partnership with the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP).
During the inspection, the agents located an illegal depot on Avenida Rio Bandeira, in Camaçari. At the site, a truck used for transporting gas cylinders was also found and underwent technical inspection.
According to the investigators, the main irregularity was storage outside safety regulations. This type of practice is considered a serious offense, as it endangers not only those who work at the site but also the residents of the area.
Risk To The Population And Threat To Regular Supply
According to industry experts, inadequate storage of gas cylinders can cause major accidents. This is because LPG is highly flammable. Any leak, combined with sparks or high temperatures, can result in tragedies.
In addition, the circulation of cylinders outside the regular system harms the legal market. In this way, authorized distributors lose ground, while consumers become more exposed to products without guarantees of origin.
As a consequence, illegal practices can also contribute to distortions in the prices of cooking gas.
Following the seizure, all gas cylinders were sent to the depot of an authorized distributor. The company will be responsible for storing the material as a faithful depositary.
The establishment was fined by the ANP, and a police investigation was launched in the Decon to investigate possible crimes against consumer relations and against the economic order.
The owner of the depot was heard by the authorities and released. However, the investigations continue, with analysis of the seized material and tracking of the origin and destination of the cylinders.
Illegal Market Concerns Authorities And Consumers
Cases like that of Camaçari reinforce the authorities’ concern about the clandestine sale of gas cylinders. Although it may seem like a cheaper solution for some, this type of trade poses serious risks.
At the same time, the discovery raises an alert: how many other irregular depots are still operating without oversight? And how many cylinders are circulating without any control?
Do you think that the illegal sale of gas cylinders might be influencing the price and the quality that reaches your home?
