Prosub Delivers First Submarine to Brazilian Navy. The Project Was Developed by Itaguaí Naval Constructions (ICN).
The subsidiaries of the Novonor group, ODT and Naval Group, companies that make up Itaguaí Naval Constructions (ICN), have just delivered the first submarine of the Submarine Development Program (Prosub) to the Brazilian Navy. Named Riachuelo (S40), this equipment is the first submarine of the Brazilian Navy built in the country with participation from the group’s companies. The Riachuelo S-40 was developed with technologies that are the result of a partnership between Brazil and France.
Riachuelo S-40 from Itaguaí Naval Constructions (ICN) Is the Most Important Delivery Ever Made
The event took place last week and was attended by representatives from the largest engineering company in Brazil, responsible for developing the entire infrastructure that makes Prosub possible, OEC.
The ceremony was marked by the signing of a document commemorating the arrival of the Riachuelo S-40 from Itaguaí Naval Constructions (ICN) to the Brazilian Navy. Additionally, it also demonstrates the completion of a rigorous acceptance testing schedule for the vehicle, both at sea and in the port, and the start of the warranty period for the equipment.

Near Amsterdam, residents buy land and discover they must also build streets, manage drainage, handle waste, and grow food on half their plot.
This is considered one of the most important deliveries ever made in Brazil’s naval military construction and marks an essential step for the development of the first Conventionally Armed Submarine of the Brazilian Navy powered by Nuclear Propulsion, called Admiral Álvaro Alberto.
More Than 30,000 Jobs Are Generated in Prosub
OEC was chosen for the Prosub due to its extensive experience in high-complexity projects. One of the major engineering challenges solved by the company is the development of the naval base and shipyard, which occupy an area of 900,000 square meters, with 750 on water.
Access to the complex is made through a tunnel excavated in rock, measuring 850 meters in length. In total, 30,000 direct and indirect jobs have been generated.
OEC Comments on the Delivery of Riachuelo S-40 to the Brazilian Navy
According to the president of OEC, Maurício Cruz Lopes, once the development of Riachuelo S-40 is completed, Brazil will be part of a group of only six countries with the capacity and technology to develop this type of equipment.
Presenting the Riachuelo S-40 from Itaguaí Naval Constructions (ICN) is already a great pride and an indescribable emotion for being part of this great story.
